About The Position

Sets-up and operates a machine that cuts metal sheets. Requires 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a similar field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected. This position is not guaranteed a full 40 hours per week of cutting work; depending on production needs, the operator may be assigned other tasks in the shop, including but not limited to assembly assistance, pickup and delivery, and packaging.

Requirements

  • May have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty with 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a manufacturing field.
  • Must be able to read blueprints, read a tape measure and fill out inventory sheets.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of material, methods, tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in poor lighting, heating and ventilation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in extreme hot and cold conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in dirty and noisy areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate hand and power tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret blueprints.
  • Demonstrated ability to sketch schematics.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in tight places.
  • Demonstrated ability to lift moderately heavy objects (50-90 pounds).
  • Demonstrated ability to do excessive walking, standing, bending and stooping.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to use measuring devices (calipers).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of tooling, and uses of tooling.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of machine upkeep (Climbing, bending, possible twisting of back).
  • Demonstrated ability to keep other safe, you safe, and the machine safe while operating.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an accurate count of all flat stock inventories as evidenced by periodic audit counts by materials management or supervisor.
  • Responsible to load correct material onto the CNC and keeps errors to a minimum as evidenced by supervisor (material sign out sheet).
  • Distributes prints to the next department as the job is completed as evidenced by the completed job, Returns program sheets after cutting to programmer.
  • Unloads material deliveries as evidenced by stock stored in an organized manner.
  • Process job orders in a timely and accurate manner as evidenced by the completed traveler with appropriate job number per machine schedule.
  • Logs into the shop management computer system to allow for an accurate accounting of time spent on a particular job as evidenced by labor reports produced by the E2 system.
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance for all equipment used for cutting raw materials as evidenced by a daily PM check.
  • Places orders with supervisor for all consumable supplies on an as needed basis as evidenced by the supply requisition form.
  • Responsible to clean up area at the end of each shift as evidenced by supervisor’s observation.
  • Other duties as required by supervisor, which may include assembly assistance, pickup and delivery, and packaging as production needs require.
