About The Position
Perform a variety of tasks to direct and control traffic in a tunnel or bridge facility, including safety and security measures. Help maximize public road safety through proper traffic control during routine and emergency operations. Duties also include assisting emergency responders and maintenance personnel, monitoring and inspecting vehicles and facility areas, maintaining security, and documenting incidents and discrepancies.
Requirements
- Communicate effectively and courteously with internal and external customers.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
- Perform manual labor tasks.
- Read and write.
- Stand watch and patrol the facility while remaining aware of traffic-related problems.
- Work as part of a team to complete assignments.
- Have working knowledge of work zone traffic control standards and techniques and methods for directing and controlling traffic.
- Wear safety shoes.
- Hold a valid driver's license.
Nice To Haves
- Training, experience, or education in bridge maintenance, tunnel maintenance, or a related field.
- Experience working with, in, or around heavy traffic.
- Flagger knowledge.
- Knowledge of security work, first aid, police work, emergency work, and meeting with the public.
Responsibilities
- Direct and control traffic and vehicles throughout the facility.
- Observe and report unusual occurrences.
- Assist state and local police, fire and rescue units, and maintenance personnel during emergencies and routine operations.
- Use safety equipment and techniques, including CPR and first aid.
- Check ID cards, issue visitor passes at checkpoints, and remain alert to security concerns.
- Report suspicious activities or events to the Control Room.
- Monitor and inspect vehicles entering facilities and prevent unauthorized pedestrians and vehicles from entering.
- Patrol and inspect assigned work areas, including buildings, facilities, and equipment.
- Perform daily housekeeping to maintain a safe, clean work environment.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and uniform appearance, and remain highly visible during peak traffic.
- Maintain a daily log and report and document incidents and discrepancies.
