About The Position

The Operator Assistant ensures that product is inspected for quality, including size, gauge, and roll formation, before shipment to customers. This role involves accurate packaging and data collection for each order, with a strong emphasis on food safety and consumer safety. Employees are expected to participate in GMP and food safety training, follow GMP policies, and report any food safety concerns with urgency.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Previous manufacturing experience preferred.
  • No specific experience required; on-the-job training is provided.
  • Ability to read a tape measure.
  • Basic math skills required.
  • Good communication skills required.
  • Ability to pass a color-blind test.
  • Some previous computer data entry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure product is inspected for quality (size, gauge, roll formation) prior to shipment.
  • Perform accurate packaging and data collection for each order.
  • Consider food safety and consumer safety while performing work.
  • Participate in GMP and food safety training and follow GMP policy.
  • Report all food safety concerns with urgency.
  • Check job ticket extrusion instructions.
  • Note any size or gauge tolerances and special packaging or labeling instructions.
  • Check product to ensure it conforms to job ticket specifications.
  • Verify size and gusset setup.
  • Identify and address issues like blocking, blending problems, and dirty die face.
  • Check product for treatment.
  • Properly package products according to job ticket information, pallet, and cradle sizes.
  • Locate packaging supplies and ensure neat and professional packaging.
  • Enter production data into the computer, ensuring accuracy.
  • Weigh every other roll and notify the operator if not correct; weigh all rolls for roll stock.
  • Track all scrap and make entries in data collection.
  • Record correct job start and stop times.
  • Obtain proper labeling information from the job ticket.
  • Print labels correctly and neatly, ensuring they are centered and lined up on the box.
  • Ensure pallet/bin labels are correctly completed.
  • Insert a white label with the correct weight into the core.
  • Train for operator duties and responsibilities, including downstream equipment and maintenance.
  • Perform basic adjustments to the master roll winder.
  • Thread all downstream equipment.
  • Understand the basic extrusion process.
  • Adjust tension on the winder and understand its effect on the roll.
  • Keep tools and miscellaneous metal parts off the floor and out of scrap.
  • Implement company policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Maintain quality of products and efficiencies.
  • Utilize problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
