About The Position

The Operator, Armoring, is a medium skill role that will process steel/aluminum MC Cable to achieve safety, quality, and efficiency requirements. Initial duties will include but are not limited to loading and unloading raw material and correctly tagging material. This role involves training to operate, coordinate, and maintain the armoring machine, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency. The operator will learn to interact with computer controls and control panels, make quality judgments, coordinate material handling, and maintain material levels. Responsibilities also include loading/unloading raw materials and finished goods, identifying scrap, and cross-training on other equipment within the workgroup. Adherence to the company's ISO Quality System and all safety procedures, including wearing required PPE and maintaining work areas to 5S standards, is mandatory. The role requires performing pre-operation safety inspections and hazard analyses.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must read, write, and speak English
  • Must be able to stand and lift heavy loads for long periods of time
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs
  • Must be able to follow instructions
  • Must be able to interpret production orders
  • Any other job duties as assigned

  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Process steel/aluminum MC Cable to achieve safety, quality, and efficiency requirements.
  • Load and unload raw material and correctly tag material.
  • Operate, coordinate, and maintain the armoring machine.
  • Make judgments concerning the quality of the steel/aluminum MC Cable.
  • Interact with computer controls to operate the machine/work cell.
  • Interact with control panels to pinpoint and eliminate various operating problems.
  • Coordinate material handling and production with other operators.
  • Maintain material levels for all levels of operation.
  • Identify scrap and place into designated scrap areas.
  • Cross-train on equipment within the identified workgroup.
  • Fill in for other positions in the event of absence or vacancy.
  • Rotate on a set frequency within the workgroup to maintain skill proficiency.
  • Use the company’s ISO Quality System documentation to guide daily quality activities.
  • Immediately report quality issues to the supervisor, department manager, or quality manager.
  • Follow all company environmental rules/procedures and handle all materials in a manner designed to minimize environmental impact.
  • Follow all safety procedures and rules including safe material handling.
  • Properly wear all required PPE.
  • Review and know all Job Hazard Analyses for proper job sequence and hazards associated with the jobs assigned.
  • Review and know all Safety Data Sheets for the jobs assigned.
  • Maintain all work areas to 5S standards.
  • Perform pre-operation safety inspection and hazard analysis.
  • Observe Southwire safety rules and maintain good housekeeping.
