About The Position

Operator 1 is an entry-level position responsible for supporting the operation of dredging and related equipment under close supervision. This role is designed for individuals beginning a career in heavy equipment operations who are eager to learn, develop technical skills, and advance within the company. While prior equipment experience is valued, dredging is a highly specialized industry with unique systems and processes. Success in this role requires a strong willingness to learn, absorb knowledge, and continuously grow. Operator 1 is intended as a developmental position, with the expectation that employees will progress through demonstrated initiative, skill development, and increased responsibility.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old by date of hire
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 0–1 year of experience in equipment operation or mechanical work.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work rotational schedules, including extended shifts and overnight assignments.
  • Current MSHA Part 46 or Part 48 training; must be able to successfully complete and maintain all required MSHA training and site-specific safety training upon hire.
  • Background screening

  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review

Responsibilities

  • Operate basic support equipment (e.g., skid steers, loaders) as directed.
  • Assist experienced operators with equipment setup, fueling, and site preparation.
  • Monitor gauges, signals, and surrounding activity to ensure safe operation.
  • Support dredging operations by following direction and performing assigned tasks.
  • Perform pre- and post-shift inspections, cleaning, and minor maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work site.
  • Follow all safety protocols, PPE requirements, and supervisor instructions.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and report hazards or mechanical issues immediately.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
