Operations Work Leader 1st Shift
About The Position
The Operations Work Leader coordinates daily warehouse operations for the Fresh Flowers division, ensuring accurate and efficient order fulfillment, product quality, and team productivity in a fast-paced refrigerated warehouse. Working with supervisors and warehouse team members, this role supports smooth workflows across picking, packing, replenishment, and final order checks. It combines hands-on leadership with real-time problem solving to support safe, organized, and productive operations. This is an onsite warehouse position at the Corporate Headquarters in Sewell, New Jersey. The work environment is refrigerated at approximately 34°F. The schedule is Sunday through Thursday, first shift, with varying start and end times. The employee must arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled shift start and may need to stay beyond the scheduled end time. Additional hours or days may be required during peak seasons or based on business needs. No regular travel is required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2–3+ years of warehouse or distribution experience.
- Experience in picking, packing, inventory, fulfillment, or a related warehouse function.
- Knowledge of Excel and warehouse management systems.
- Experience using RF scanners and other warehouse technology.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and respond to changing priorities.
- Ability to work in a refrigerated warehouse environment maintained at approximately 34°F.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform tasks involving bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching.
- Ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to use handheld or wrist-mounted scanning devices.
- Vision abilities including close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Nice To Haves
- 2+ years of supervisory experience, or similar experience leading teams and coordinating labor in a warehouse environment.
- Apprise experience.
- Forklift certification or ability to become certified.
- Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment.
- Experience working with fresh flowers, perishables, or other temperature-sensitive products.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily warehouse operations to support efficient order picking, packing, and shipping.
- Arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled shift start to prepare scanners, number orders, and develop the daily game plan.
- Work with picking teams to verify that customer orders are accurate and complete.
- Monitor pick tickets, packing queues, and workflow to maintain productivity and meet shipping deadlines.
- Guide team members through packing processes, including dry packs, Procona buckets, and other product preparation methods.
- Oversee inventory replenishment, product unboxing, and stocking to maintain product availability.
- Support final quality checks to ensure orders meet company standards before shipment.
- Align staffing and workflows with order volume to maintain production and minimize bottlenecks.
- Partner with supervisors and team members to promote safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Stay past the scheduled shift end as needed to process reports and complete window and tropical orders.
