About The Position

Southern Power is seeking an Operations Technician to operate and maintain the Plant Rowan combined cycle power plant. The role monitors, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs the plant’s electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical systems. It also includes maintaining records in the Maximo computer-based work order system, participating in the plant maintenance program and fleet-wide operation review boards as a system owner, and carrying out other duties such as project management and system ownership assignments.

This is a multi-crafted position requiring the ability to learn to operate a combined cycle plant independently and communicate effectively with plant stakeholders. The technician must be able to perform physically demanding work safely in all types of weather and support a 24/7 schedule, including holiday and back-shift work when necessary.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Two to five years of recent combined cycle operations experience as a control room and field operator, or equivalent industry experience.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to apply logical thinking and deal with situations encountered on the job.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical equipment.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and acquire basic computer skills.
• Ability to learn to independently operate a combined cycle plant and communicate effectively with plant stakeholders.
• Ability to perform physically demanding activities, including climbing stairs and ladders and lifting heavy equipment, while working safely in all types of weather.
• Self-starter and team player; able to handle complex, high-pressure situations and adapt to a changing work environment.
• Ability to support a 24/7 schedule, including holiday and back-shift work when necessary.
• Must pass the TECH - Technician Occupations pre-employment test and the Ops Tech test to become a fully qualified Operations Technician.

Nice To Haves

• Two-year college or technical degree.
• Recent experience with power plant combustion turbine major maintenance programs, including combustion inspection, HGPI, and major overhaul procedures and related auxiliary equipment.
• Recent experience with Toshiba steam turbines in combined cycle service.
• Experience with the Maximo work order management system.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the Plant Rowan combined cycle power plant.
