The Operations Team Lead oversees the mechanical and electrical assembly, completion, delivery, and installation resources for the AMF Flex product line. Based in Richmond, VA, The Flex business generates $30 MM of revenue and is growing fast due to market demand. The successful Team Lead will be a conscientious leader who is passionate about safety, results, and ensuring quality experience for their team. They will be a proven leader; who are self-driven to build and sustain a healthy culture, develop their team, and build processes that enable repeatable results. Using Markel Business System processes, daily responsibilities include engaging the team to commit to and deliver on daily and weekly goals, reporting on metrics, driving countermeasures, and ensuring teammates have the material and means to perform their work at the highest levels of quality. Influencing and partnering with plant leadership and supporting functions within the Richmond site will be a critical skill for a successful Team Lead. This position is highly visible throughout all of AMF and has the potential to lead to future opportunities and career growth.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering is preferred
  • Operations experience in an "engineer to order" or "configure to order" environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applying Lean principles in a variety of situations.
  • Able to think strategically and view the business from a general management perspective
  • Customer-focused with strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • High energy and able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Adaptability to change
  • Independence and good judgment, positive attitude, and an innovative spirit
  • Demonstrated proficiency in time and project management

Nice To Haves

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic computer operations such as internet and email protocols, connectivity, and internet networking
  • PLC ladder logic and structured text; PLC and Hardware troubleshooting considered a plus
  • Experience in CRM systems; MS Dynamics considered a plus
  • Bakery or industrial packaging maintenance experience is considered a plus

Responsibilities

  • Provide team direction, alignment, and communication on operational strategy and performance
  • Monitor the cost and effectiveness of production activities to optimize resources, prioritize spending, and achieve volume, quality, and manufacturing standards
  • Establish and maintain appropriate systems and processes for achieving and measuring operational performance and productivity
  • Drive accountability to ensure the achievement of business results.
  • Recommend manufacturing objectives for business planning purposes, capital expenditures, budgetary requirements, etc. Establishes and ensures achievement of manufacturing department objectives
  • Responsible for goal setting and providing direction, guidance, and ongoing coaching to ensure the achievement of the goals
  • Promote a culture of safety and drive accountability to maintain zero accident environment and ensure a safe and suitable work environment for teammates, vendors, suppliers, and visitors
  • Responsible for development, training opportunities, and succession planning to increase bench strength of the team.
  • Support team environment and promote a proactive attitude towards continuous improvement.
  • Oversee management of mechanical and electrical areas of product assembly and activities so that schedules are met and are within quality standards, safety policies, and cost objectives.
  • Identify assembly-based warranty issues and implement corrective actions and processes
  • Responsible for assembly, savings/cost opportunity analysis, and the implementation and management of cost improvement measures
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing to ensure problem-free installation and start-up.
  • Oversee successful execution of equipment installations, operational delivery, project quality, and site safety for the Workhorse Richmond projects
  • Manage the Workhorse Richmond installation team and work closely with the Project Managers to monitor project performance in terms of progress against customers' schedules, install estimates, planning accuracy, and cost efficiency
  • Interact with customers and ensure high customer satisfaction on FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) visits and equipment installations
  • Proactively manage resource needs and installation capacity per the project pipeline and schedule
  • Ensure all assembly teammates participate in customer installations to understand market expectations
  • Provide field feedback to engineering for technical problem-solving
  • Drive operational excellence and achieve sustainable results through continuous improvement programs and lean manufacturing (kaizen, problem-solving, 5S, value steam mapping)
