About The Position

At Liberty Waste Solutions, we're redefining waste management across North Carolina by delivering reliable, safety-focused, and environmentally responsible solutions. Our Apex Transfer Station is a key component of our post-collection network, processing construction and demolition (C&D) debris, yard waste, and recyclable materials. We are seeking an experienced Operations Supervisor to lead daily operations while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance, customer service, and operational efficiency. The Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Apex Transfer Station, including personnel management, contractor oversight, equipment operation, customer service, environmental compliance, and financial performance. This position ensures the facility operates safely, efficiently, and in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in transfer station, landfill, recycling, construction, heavy industrial, or similar operations preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience operating heavy equipment in a production environment preferred.
  • Previous experience managing contractors and coordinating multiple work groups.
  • Experience operating truck scales or willingness to learn scale operations.
  • Strong understanding of waste management operations, environmental compliance, and workplace safety.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and NCDEQ regulations preferred.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and operational reporting systems.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all daily transfer station operations, ensuring safe, efficient movement and processing of incoming and outgoing materials.
  • Supervise the acceptance, inspection, sorting, loading, storage, and shipment of construction and demolition debris, yard waste, recyclables, and other approved materials.
  • Operate heavy equipment including excavators, wheel loaders, crushers, grinders, screeners, water trucks, and other equipment needed to support daily operations.
  • Serve as the backup Scale Attendant, including weighing inbound and outbound vehicles, entering transactions into the scale software, verifying waste types, and providing excellent customer service.
  • Manage and oversee all third-party contractors operating on-site, ensuring compliance with Liberty Waste Solutions' safety policies, operating procedures, contract requirements, and regulatory obligations.
  • Coordinate contractor activities to maximize productivity while maintaining safe traffic flow and minimizing operational disruptions.
  • Maintain safe traffic patterns throughout the facility for customers, employees, and commercial haulers.
  • Ensure tipping floors, loading areas, processing areas, and storage locations remain clean, organized, and compliant with permit requirements.
  • Enforce all federal, state (NCDEQ), local, OSHA, DOT, and company safety regulations.
  • Implement and enforce all Site Operating Plans (SOPs), Permit to Operate (PTO) requirements, environmental permits, and company policies.
  • Coordinate routine inspections, corrective actions, preventative maintenance, and housekeeping throughout the facility.
  • Manage equipment utilization and coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance to maximize uptime.
  • Supervise facility employees, assign daily work, conduct performance coaching, and assist with hiring, training, and employee development.
  • Conduct daily crew meetings and communicate operational priorities, safety topics, and production goals.
  • Complete incident investigations, safety reports, inspection reports, and regulatory documentation in a timely manner.
  • Manage operating expenses and assist with annual budgeting and capital planning.
  • Conduct monthly P&L reviews and present financial performance, identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and control costs.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, professionalism, and operational excellence.
  • All other duties as directed.
