About The Position

Ready to lead both hauling and maintenance operations and keep the Alma region's fleet running safely and reliably? This role involves fostering accountability, safety, and performance excellence for direct reports, managing daily operations, and ensuring the efficient maintenance and repair of the truck fleet and ancillary equipment. The position requires collaboration with various departments, promoting a culture of safety, and managing parts inventory. This is a safety-sensitive position, requiring compliance with all applicable safety and drug and alcohol policies.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in the waste industry or a related field.
  • CDL-B with airbrakes and forklift license required (or ability and willingness to obtain within 3 months).
  • Good driving record with fewer than 5 points; meets other safe driving requirements.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Self-motivated, with strong communication and people-management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Foster accountability, safety, and performance excellence for all direct reports.
  • Set clear expectations, deliver coaching, and complete performance reviews.
  • Manage timekeeping, PTO requests, and payroll coding.
  • Coordinate daily and weekly staffing plans, schedules, and workflow priorities.
  • Promote a culture of safety, addressing non-compliance and leading or participating in incident/injury investigations.
  • Build strong relationships with team members through daily communication, feedback, and recognition.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and training for new associates.
  • Collaborate with customer solutions, maintenance, sales, and landfill teams on work orders, late arrivals, and other operational needs.
  • Ensure efficient route operations through effective scheduling and route monitoring, with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Manage all maintenance and repair of the truck fleet and ancillary equipment, including preventive maintenance, repairs, and work orders.
  • Ensure adequate truck availability each morning to effectively service customers.
  • Oversee fleet management software to ensure accurate documentation of repairs, parts usage, and scheduling.
  • Take full ownership of the parts room, coordinating with central purchasing for inventory accuracy and availability.
  • Create and process purchase orders for warranty items, core parts, and returns.
  • Monitor stocking levels for parts, supplies, and uniforms; conduct regular inventory cycle counts.
  • Support special projects as needed.
