About The Position

The Operations Supervisor - Distribution is responsible for prioritizing, scheduling, and delegating work assignments within the shipping and receiving department. This role directly supervises the department to ensure the accurate, cost-effective, and timely delivery of outbound freight. The supervisor will monitor inventory levels, conduct cycle counts, and coordinate the movement of inventory materials. Additionally, this position involves training employees, appraising performance, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. The supervisor will also assess staffing requirements, monitor performance goals, and coordinate stock shortage shipments and rework of returned goods. Keeping management informed of important matters impacting quality, cost, safety, or morale is crucial. The role also includes providing safety and job skills training, monitoring safety issues, ensuring the completion of required records and paperwork, and maintaining compliance with all safety regulations, work rules, and equipment maintenance standards. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Broad business knowledge of distribution operating systems and business processes
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated clear, professional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective problem solving skills and decision making abilities.
  • Strong Computer proficiency, with strength in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in distribution.
  • Demonstrated success leading in a union environment.

Nice To Haves

  • SAP experience preferred.
  • Lean manufacturing and/or process improvement work experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Business Administration, or other related field, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize, schedule and delegate work assignments, and directly supervise the shipping and receiving department to ensure the accurate, cost effective and timely delivery of outbound freight.
  • Monitor inventory levels and perform inventory cycle counts, ensuring adequate supplies of finished product to improve fill rate and on-time shipping.
  • Conduct training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Coordinate interplant and intra-plant movement of inventory materials.
  • Assist with specifications for required material handling equipment, racking, and dock equipment.
  • Conduct shipment audits to meet or improve customer shipping expectations.
  • Assess staffing requirements and assign work, while monitoring performance goals.
  • Coordinate stock shortage shipments and rework of returned goods with Production Department.
  • Keep management informed on general conditions and on matters of importance, which could impact quality, cost, safety, or employee morale.
  • Provide safety and job skills training.
  • Monitor safety issues throughout the warehouse.
  • Ensure the completion of all required records, paperwork, documents, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, work rules and regulations. Ensure the maintenance of equipment and departmental housekeeping standards.
