About The Position

The pace and extent of changes in the accounting profession are significant, driven by new regulations and globalization. The diversity and complexity of our investment environment make our accounting and finance opportunities challenging. This role focuses on recording detailed cash journal entries, performing various reconciliations and controls for Mutual Fund Trust cash movement and GRS stock plan products. The control reviews are designed to identify issues and ensure accuracy, as well as to collaborate with senior staff on proposing operational efficiencies and supporting internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience in Fund Accounting or Accounting Firms.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, specifically Excel (advanced).

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • Controls and reporting experience an asset.
  • Operational background or understanding of operational environment, an asset.
  • Knowledge of Retail Wealth Management products (Mutual Funds, Segregated Funds) and admin systems (Lawson, IFast, MPS) would be an asset.
  • Proactive, resourceful and a self-starter.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset. If the successful candidate is in Québec, proficiency in both languages will be required to support clients from various provinces outside of Quebec.

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily, weekly, and monthly account reconciliations from low to medium complexity; requires technical awareness of internal systems such as the General Ledger and Administration platforms.
  • Perform monthly dividend and asset reconciliations for Stock Plans; requires technical awareness of internal systems such as MPS and custody platforms.
  • Applies accounting and internal control processes through the monitoring and clearing of suspense accounts, and identifies and resolves issues.
  • Analyzes daily outstanding items and resolves routine errors in a timely manner, escalating non-routine errors to manager as necessary.
  • Contact internal stakeholders to make sure issues are resolved and provide support through correction process.
  • Prepare and process detailed journal entries; prepare backup information and analysis of accounting entries.
  • Provide support to others within the Trust Accounting Services teams to ensure adequate coverage on all tasks, as directed.
  • Prepare the funding for various bank accounts to cover the cash movement for related expenses and investment allocation through treasury management platform.
