About The Position

Corning is a world leader in glass, ceramic, and materials science, known for its innovations that push boundaries. The Optical Communications segment has evolved into a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions. This segment is divided into carrier network and enterprise network product groups, serving diverse communication needs. This role is responsible for leading and managing front-line supervisors and hourly associates within the Catawba Campus (HCP, NCP, TCP). The position directly impacts safety, quality, cost, delivery, and team morale. It involves managing both direct and indirect reports and collaborating with engineering and maintenance teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science
  • Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience with a proven track record of leadership progression
  • Direct people management experience with both salaried and non-exempt employees, including demonstrated skills in conflict resolution, coaching, active listening, and employee development
  • Experience developing, implementing, and driving results through key manufacturing metrics, including safety, quality, cost, delivery, and morale

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or advanced technical graduate degree
  • Six Sigma DMAIC Green Belt certification and/or demonstrated Lean capabilities
  • Experience collaborating, interfacing, and communicating effectively across functions and with leadership
  • Experience participating in or leading cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment to deliver key improvement initiatives or cost reduction programs
  • Experience supporting or leading innovation, new product development, and successful product launch into manufacturing
  • Experience managing talent development strategies, including programs to attract, develop, and retain key talent

Responsibilities

  • Drive daily, weekly, and monthly manufacturing performance by identifying bottlenecks, adapting to staffing changes, and maintaining efficient queue levels.
  • Manage department overtime and labor costs while balancing short-term needs with longer-term hiring decisions.
  • Maintain the staffing model by addressing workforce gaps, planning for capacity growth, and improving labor efficiency through cross-training.
  • Partner with planning and scheduling teams to execute production plans and support on-time manufacturing (OTM) and on-time-to-promise (OTP) performance.
  • Lead execution through product/process changeovers, equipment upgrades, engineering trials, maintenance activities, and new product introductions while meeting production targets.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and work with Lean teams to improve OEE through setup reduction and decreased unplanned downtime.
  • Lead and develop manufacturing teams by driving accountability for safety, quality, performance, and employee development.
