About The Position

Develops and applies mathematical and statistical modeling techniques and other methods to support squadron leadership decision-making and operational test analysis. The role may include developing software tools and reviewing or developing robust test-analysis designs to ensure test-space coverage and assess system effectiveness and suitability. It involves collecting and analyzing data, defining data requirements, reporting results to customers, and reviewing the work of other test analysts. The position also identifies indicators of system performance, corrective measures, and appropriate reporting through squadron processes. Where data is insufficient, the role may create, conduct, design, and evaluate experimental operational models. The work requires knowledge of calculus and statistics, including Design of Experiments and Combinatorial Testing. The position is based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and requires 15% travel. The role supports operational testing and evaluation of space systems, including test design, data collection, statistical analysis, reporting, and coordination with government and squadron stakeholders. A TS/SCI security clearance is required.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of technical experience in DoD and USAF OT&E test design, analysis, and test support evaluating new and existing space systems in a realistic environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Research, Statistics, Math, or Engineering; four additional years of experience may substitute for the degree, for a total of 9 years of experience.
  • TS/SCI security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with statistical software applications such as MATLAB, JMP, and Design Expert.
  • Thorough understanding of Design of Experiments for test planning and evaluation of test results.
  • In-depth understanding of advanced statistics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Broad understanding of statistics, including data distributions, data sampling techniques, confidence intervals, and regression test techniques.
  • Understanding of how to evaluate common system effectiveness and suitability factors, including reliability, maintainability, and availability.
  • Understanding of USSF systems, including Space Domain Awareness, Missile Warning, Missile Defense, Satellite Control Network, and Satellite Command and Control systems.
  • Working knowledge of United States Space Force test and evaluation directives.
  • 2+ years of technical experience in DoD and USAF OT&E test design, analysis, and test support evaluating new and existing space systems in a realistic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Use Scientific Test and Analysis Techniques to build viable test designs with sufficient power to test space assets.
  • Apply statistical analysis methods to characterize and rate collected test data, including hypothesis testing, t-tests, regression testing, factor analysis, and statistical process control.
  • Build test scope using Critical Operational Issues, Operational Capabilities, Measures of Effectiveness and Suitability, and Measures of Performance.
  • Develop test approaches for statistical analysis of system performance, potentially incorporating scenario injection, Model & Simulation, or real-world system operations.
  • Direct data collection activities and verify that all required test objectives are complete.
  • Process and evaluate test data using MATLAB and JMP, and assess system performance.
  • Use statistical methods to characterize data and identify trends such as distributions, outliers, variability, and correlation.
  • Write technical reports describing testing problems, analysis techniques, and ratings for all measures.
  • Support development and coordination of test reporting documents and briefings; present evaluation results to the 17 TS for review; and ensure documents and briefings comply with AFI and AFSPCI 99 103 direction.
  • Review other Test Analysts' test designs and provide comments; evaluate test requirements to determine desired and required sample sizes and test duration.
  • Assist other Test Analysts with post-test data analysis and ensure appropriate analysis techniques are applied.
  • Assist the Government Chief Analyst in establishing uniform analysis methods and documenting procedures for organizational use.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
