About The Position

The World Bank Group is one of the largest sources of funding and knowledge for developing countries; a unique global partnership of five institutions dedicated to ending extreme poverty and promoting shared prosperity. With 189 member countries and more than 120 offices worldwide, we work with public and private sector partners, investing in groundbreaking projects and using data, research, and technology to develop solutions to the most urgent global challenges. The Eastern and Southern Africa (AFE) region is home to nearly 60% of the continent’s population, with strong human and natural resource potential but persistent challenges in job creation, poverty, and inequality. The World Bank Group is supporting countries in the region to accelerate job creation through investments in infrastructure and human capital, stronger governance and business environments, and mobilization of private sector investment. This is complemented by regional programs in energy, transport, digital connectivity, water, and skills development that enable economic transformation. Flagship initiatives such as Mission 300, AIM2030, and Agriconnect aim to expand opportunities at scale. Through financing, policy advice, and partnerships, the World Bank Group is helping unlock the region’s potential to create more and better jobs. The AFEDE team provides proactive operational services focused on strategic advice, and guidance to staff and regional management and works closely with the Verticals and CMUs in delivering and managing the pipeline and portfolio of the region. The unit also liaises between corporate units, the offices of senior management, and the AFE region.
