About The Position

Build a career with impact. Working at the World Bank Group (WBG) provides a unique opportunity to help countries solve their greatest development challenges. As one of the largest sources of funding and knowledge for developing countries, the WBG is a unique partnership of five global institutions dedicated to ending poverty, increasing shared prosperity, and promoting sustainable development. With 189 member countries and more than 120 offices worldwide, the WBG works with public and private sector partners, investing in groundbreaking projects and using data, research, and technology to develop solutions to the most urgent global challenges. The position sits within the Market Building with Toolkits & Products (KTCSM) unit, part of the One Climate Department under the Planet Vertical of the WBG Knowledge Bank. KTCSM's mission is to accelerate the adoption of low-carbon and resilient solutions in emerging markets by developing globally recognized certification systems, digital tools, and market-building products that lower transaction costs, build investor confidence, and connect public policy to private sector investment. The unit manages four flagship programs, EDGE (green building certification), BRI (Building Resilience Index), APEX (city-level climate action planning), and Eco-Industrial Parks (EIP) certification. Industrial parks and zones are engines of economic growth and job creation across emerging markets, yet most remain resource intensive, polluting, lacking in value-added services, and broadly unsustainable — representing one of the most significant and under addressed challenges in emerging market industrial development. Shifting global supply chains and rising investor demands for ESG compliance are creating a real opportunity to change this, transforming industrial parks into platforms for low-carbon, resilient, and competitive development. The EIP Global Certification is the WBG's response to this challenge — the world's first global sustainability certification purpose-built for industrial parks and zones. It provides a rigorous, internationally recognized benchmark across Environmental, Social, and Economic pillars, giving park operators, tenants, investors, and governments a credible standard to measure performance, attract sustainable investment, and create quality jobs.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in environmental science, engineering, urban planning, economics, business, or a related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience in sustainability standards, environmental and social management, industrial development, or technical advisory services.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in sustainability assessment, certification design, or environmental and social management; hands-on experience with ISO 14001, EDGE, LEED, BREEAM, or similar frameworks is a strong advantage.
  • Experience working with industrial parks, special economic zones, manufacturing clients, or infrastructure developers is a strong advantage.
  • Solid understanding of industrial policy, manufacturing sector dynamics, and supply chain sustainability.
  • Strong technical writing and analytical skills, with the ability to communicate complex content clearly to non-specialist audiences.
  • Experience working in a developing country context, particularly in East Asia & Pacific, Latin America & Caribbean, MENA, or Africa; prior experience at IFC, the World Bank, or another development finance institution is an advantage.

  • Lead or co-lead EIP diagnostic assessments for industrial parks and zones across multiple regions, managing technical scoping, data collection, analysis, and report preparation.
  • Provide expert technical advisory to park operators, industrial developers, and government clients on environmental and social management systems, park performance, and certification readiness.
  • Manage day-to-day delivery of the EIP advisory portfolio, ensuring technical quality, timeliness, and alignment with the certification roadmap.
  • Lead the rollout of EIP certification readiness pilots and identify market expansion opportunities across new regions, countries, and park types, building the technical case for EIP adoption with clients, investors, and government counterparts.
  • Coordinate with IFC industry teams, World Bank country units, and regional platforms to identify, develop, and convert EIP opportunities into signed engagements.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality EIP technical knowledge products, including diagnostic toolkits, assessment guides, case studies, and training materials, and represent the program at external events, technical workshops, and government dialogues.
  • Track and report on program results, pipeline, and impact metrics; engage with development partners and standard-setting bodies to build global market recognition for the EIP certification; and contribute to fundraising and resource mobilization efforts.
