About The Position

Well-run distributor seeks an unusually talented Operations Manager to run a fresh-produce warehouse the way it ought to be run — safe, efficient, profitable, and a little better every single day. The Operations Manager will own the building, including production, repack, shipping and receiving, Q/A and inventory, and maintenance, and will be responsible for the outcomes without excuses. This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer, and the floor reports to the Operations Manager.

Requirements

  • Seven to ten years running operations in a food-production facility.
  • Genuinely fluent in Lean or Six Sigma (applied thinking, not just certification).
  • Strong financial and data analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to do the job well in a fraction of the time most competent people think possible.

Responsibilities

  • Raise the average by coaching, mentoring, and developing supervisors and managers, and building a culture of accountability.
  • Match people to the work by owning scheduling and staffing across all departments to align with business needs.
  • Lead hard and well, guarding the team's well-being and work-life harmony.
  • Map the floor and design out waste by analyzing product flow from receiving to shipping, identifying and eliminating inefficiencies.
  • Document improvements and new layouts as standards.
  • Be impossible to surprise by keeping maintenance current and scheduled, and proactively identifying potential failures.
  • Invent and simplify strategies to make the building more productive and reduce complexity.
  • Dive deep on data by reviewing KPIs constantly and using them for improvement, while also validating with on-floor anecdotes.
  • Respect every dollar by managing costs and budgets to plan and practicing frugality.
  • Get grade-out right by balancing high-quality product with minimizing waste.
  • Insist on the highest standards for food safety and production best practices.
  • Own safety completely, including food safety, facility safety, OHS, and maintenance.
  • Enforce standards by ensuring supervisors and employees follow policy and procedure.
  • Keep the bar high by regularly training the Quality Control and Food Safety team.
  • Treat SOPs as living documents, reviewing and rewriting them as reality changes.
