About The Position

The Operations Manager - Second Shift is responsible for managing assigned production department(s) and employees, ensuring adequate coverage through scheduling, monitoring workflow, and anticipating changes. This role involves maintaining and developing personnel training in proper work methods, recording performance, monitoring employee efficiency, department KPIs, and labor utilization. A key aspect of this position is protecting the well-being and safety of department personnel by ensuring proper training, adherence to safe practices, and maintaining equipment in safe working order. The manager will also oversee cross-training and employee development, collaborate with cross-functional teams, coordinate with other departments to resolve issues and ensure material availability, and set and meet production goals. The role requires analyzing problems for continuous improvement, troubleshooting system issues, and participating in LEAN/5-S activities. Ensuring staff are properly trained on policies and procedures and maintaining a high degree of security for personnel and company assets are also critical. Maintaining open communication with management and other departments is essential for smooth operations. The ability to cope with a stressful work environment and cordially interact with coworkers is also noted.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree specializing in Business Administration, Logistics, or Industrial Engineering, OR equivalent industry experience.
  • At least 2-4 years’ experience in materials management and distribution.
  • One to three years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Warehouse Management systems, Labor Management systems, sortation systems and warehouse operations preferred.
  • Above average ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Good negotiation, interpersonal, communication, training, and development skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate others.
  • Ability to plan, organize, operate independently, implement, and follow through on projects.
  • Mental ability to conduct ongoing interpersonal interactions and analyze and solve problems is essential.

Nice To Haves

  • One to three years of supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with Warehouse Management systems, Labor Management systems, sortation systems and warehouse operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the assigned production department(s) and employees, including scheduling for adequate coverage and monitoring workflow.
  • Maintain and develop the training of department personnel in proper work methods and ensure these methods are followed.
  • Protect the well-being and safety of department personnel by ensuring training in safe work practices, adherence to these practices, and proper equipment maintenance.
  • Oversee the department(s) cross-training program and employee development for proper coverage and bench strength.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including technical support, human resources, Account Operations, Control Room, and Traffic, to ensure smooth flow of information, product, and processes.
  • Coordinate with other departments and managers to resolve issues, ensure material availability, and manage labor movement within the facility.
  • Set and meet production goals as needed throughout the various seasons.
  • Analyze problems and options regarding continuous improvement methods and troubleshoot system problems.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement projects and LEAN/5-S activities to drive Cost Per Unit targets.
  • Ensure that staff is properly trained and in complete understanding of all policies and procedures within the department(s).
  • Ensure that a high degree of security for personnel and company assets is maintained.
  • Maintain positive open lines of communication with all Columbia Sportswear management, staff, and other departments.
  • Cope with a stressful work environment and cordially interact with coworkers to accomplish common tasks.
