About The Position

The Operations Manager oversees the facility's production operations by planning, organizing, directing, and controlling daily activities and performance. This role is responsible for scheduling personnel, meeting production targets, directing daily production and yard operations, and overseeing vehicle movement into the production area. The Operations Manager ensures personnel have the necessary support, tools, and supplies, and develops and manages production quality gates. They conduct audits, monitor operations, and communicate daily with leads, staff, and office personnel to address staffing, supply, and operational needs. Additionally, this role is responsible for training new personnel, managing progressive discipline, and administering safety programs to maintain a safe and compliant workplace. The Operations Manager also handles accident and injury documentation, promotes a positive work environment, and ensures compliance with company policies and procedures. They assist with equipment and vehicle maintenance, establish objectives for direct reports, and partner with Human Resources on personnel matters. The role requires adaptability to change and effective work in various situations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including intermediate Excel and Access skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of operational and office practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with customers, associates, and the public.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong command of English spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Working knowledge of invoicing and billing, business mathematics, and accounts payable and receivable.
  • Ability to perform varied duties requiring considerable independent judgment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and practices.
  • Excellent planning, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Ability to prepare accurate reports and information.
  • Ability to drive vehicles with automatic or manual transmissions.
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Ability to score at least 80% on the driver safety test.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with internal and customer computer applications, such as AS400/VIPS, is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule personnel daily to meet production goals cost-effectively.
  • Meet daily production targets while maintaining established quality standards.
  • Direct daily production and yard operations.
  • Oversee vehicle movement into the production area.
  • Ensure personnel have the support, tools, and supplies required for production.
  • Develop and manage production quality gates.
  • Conduct audits and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Monitor operations, assist as needed, and adjust activities when appropriate.
  • Communicate daily with leads, staff, and office personnel to identify and meet staffing, supply, and operational needs.
  • Ensure new personnel receive appropriate training.
  • Manage progressive discipline, including counseling, warnings, and other corrective actions, to maintain a productive work environment.
  • Document performance issues and coordinate corrective actions with the Terminal Manager.
  • Manage safety programs that maintain a safe, clean workplace and comply with local, state, and OSHA requirements.
  • Document accidents and injuries on the appropriate forms and notify relevant customers, vendors, and company personnel.
  • Promote a positive work environment through professional conduct and respectful communication with customers, vendors, coworkers, and management.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ensure all associates and the Operations Supervisor follow company policies and procedures.
  • Administer safety programs that maintain a safe, clean workplace and comply with local, state, and OSHA requirements.
  • Assist with maintaining equipment and company vehicles.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.
  • Establish objectives and procedures for assigned activities, set annual objectives for direct reports, and review Operations Supervisors' objectives.
  • Select and retain qualified direct reports and recommend their compensation.
  • Direct, monitor, and evaluate personnel performance while coordinating activities.
  • Maintain effective communication within the area of responsibility.
  • Keep associates informed about company and facility plans and progress.
  • Consult with management on policies and actions and ensure compliance within the area of responsibility.
  • Partner with Human Resources on personnel matters to ensure consistent compliance and recommend improvements to policies and procedures.
  • Ensure each direct report clearly understands their duties, responsibilities, authority, and accountability.
  • Assist with snow removal and other property maintenance as needed.
  • Adapt productively to change.
  • Work effectively in a variety of situations.
