About The Position

Fort Washington Medical Center seeks to hire an experienced Operations Manager for our Surgical Services Department who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing. As an Operations Manager you will: · Operationalize the strategic plan for surgical services in alignment with organizational goals and vision. · Develop and monitor department-specific objectives, productivity targets, and performance metrics. · Provide guidance, mentorship, and evaluation for managers, supervisors, and staff within all surgical services units. · Serve as an integral member of the senior leadership team; represent surgical services in organizational initiatives and committees. · Promote succession planning and professional development for future leaders in surgical services. · Oversee daily operations of the OR, PACU, Endoscopy, and Sterile Processing units. · Ensure alignment of inpatient and outpatient surgical workflows to promote efficiency and coordination of care. · Monitor and report operational metrics to ensure efficiency, timeliness, and safety · Monitor resource utilization, including staffing, equipment, and facilities, to ensure safe, cost-effective, and high-quality patient care. · Participate in budget development, capital planning, and financial performance monitoring. · Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and organizational policies. · Role model and enforce professional practice standards, including autonomy, accountability, and responsibility of nursing and surgical staff. · Promote evidence-based practice, quality improvement initiatives, and patient safety strategies. · Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration to optimize surgical patient outcomes and experience. · Support staff participation in professional development, certifications, and continuing education. · Lead continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies such as DMAIC and Lean principles. · Monitor and report on key performance indicators, including surgical volumes, safety outcomes, patient satisfaction, and resource utilization. · Address adverse events, near misses, and patient complaints in a timely and effective manner. · Foster a culture of Just Culture, accountability, and constructive conflict resolution. · Build cohesive, high-performing teams across all surgical services units. · Facilitate effective communication, teamwork, and collaboration across disciplines. · Promote a patient-centered, inclusive, and culturally responsive work environment.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Nursing (ASN) required
  • Current Maryland State nursing license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Certification in leadership, nursing administration, or perioperative nursing within 1 year of hire.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in surgical services or a department-specific leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience in budget oversight, operational management, and quality improvement initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) Preferred
  • Experience managing multiple units and interdisciplinary teams preferred.
