About The Position

The APEX Power Co. Project in Hubbard, TX, currently under Phase 1 construction, is expected to expand to 1.6 GW. It features a diverse mix of generation technologies, including Siemens SGT-800/400 simple cycle turbines, MAN/Everllence 18V51/60G gas reciprocating engines, GE LM6000/LM2500 simple cycle turbines, Pratt & Whitney FT8 simple cycle turbines, and a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), enabling flexible, reliable power output. Future expansion may include additional GE aero and large frame units (6B, 7FA/7FB/7H) in simple or combined cycle configurations, allowing the plant to efficiently meet varying energy demands while supporting data center reliability. As an O&M Technician at the APEX Power Co. Project, you will play a critical role in preparing mechanical systems for safe and reliable operation during the Pre-Commissioning Phase. You will perform hands-on tasks including equipment inspection, assembly, alignment, testing, and minor maintenance on turbines, engines, BESS components, and auxiliary systems while ensuring adherence to safety and site procedures. Additionally, you will document activities, support maintenance and other technical teams as needed, and collaborate with contractors and engineering staff to facilitate a smooth transition to full operational readiness. As O&M Technician, your responsibilities specific to the Pre-Commissioning Phase include the following functions: Participate in training to become proficient with turbines, engines, BESS mechanical components, auxiliary systems, and site safety procedures. Assist in inspecting, assembling, aligning, and testing mechanical equipment to ensure proper installation, fit, and operational readiness prior to commissioning. Record observations, inspection results, and any identified mechanical issues to support regulatory compliance and facilitate a smooth transition to operational teams. Work with vendors, contractors, and engineering staff to ensure mechanical pre-commissioning activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with site procedures. Your scope of responsibility as O&M Technician will include the following primary functions: Operate turbines, reciprocating engines, HRSGs, BESS components, and major auxiliary mechanical systems according to standard operating procedures. Perform startup, shutdown, and routine mechanical checks of plant equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. Inspect mechanical components, perform visual checks, and monitor operational parameters such as pressure, temperature, vibration, and fluid levels. Conduct minor repairs, adjustments, and preventive maintenance tasks, including lubrication, alignment, and component replacement. Prepare equipment for commissioning or service by verifying installation, checking fitment, and confirming readiness of mechanical systems. Maintain accurate logs of inspections, operational activities, maintenance performed, and any abnormalities in CMMS or work orders. Identify and report abnormal or irregular conditions, collaborating with engineering, contractors, or specialized technicians to resolve issues safely. Assist maintenance teams during scheduled outages, mechanical repairs, or preventive maintenance activities, providing backup support as needed. Support other O&M, electrical, and IC&E technicians on a backup basis when additional manpower is required for mechanical or operational tasks. Follow all plant safety, environmental, and operational procedures while performing daily tasks, ensuring a safe working environment. Fulfill other tasks as assigned by the Shift Supervisor and plant management, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of plant operations.

Requirements

  • Ability to understand procedures and instructions related to the assigned area, typically acquired through four years of high school.
  • Proven hands-on experience in power generation facilities, including operating and maintaining gas turbines, steam turbines, auxiliary boilers, and combined cycle systems.
  • Skilled in startup, shutdown, and routine mechanical operations, including monitoring system performance, troubleshooting, and performing minor repairs to ensure safe and reliable plant operation.
  • Experience disassembling, inspecting, and reassembling plant components such as pumps, valves, and turbine-generator assemblies to support ongoing operations and reliability.
  • Strong knowledge of turbine and plant process operations, instrumentation, and monitoring of operational parameters to maintain optimal performance and prevent downtime.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, including blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams, while accurately documenting operational activities and maintenance work.
  • Comprehensive understanding of safety and operational protocols, including Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), OSHA regulations, and environmental compliance requirements in a power generation setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional operations and maintenance teams, contractors, and vendors to coordinate tasks and optimize plant performance.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills with effective technical communication, writing, and analytical abilities to support operational decision-making and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
