About The Position

The goal of the Operations Leadership Program is to thoroughly learn all facets of the scrap metal recycling industry from the ground up to assume a Leadership role upon completion. This is a hands-on, fast-paced training program designed to prepare individuals for leadership positions within the company. The program involves extensive training in safety, scrap processing, logistics, operations management, and equipment maintenance. It requires adaptability, strong decision-making skills, and the ability to work effectively in a demanding industrial environment. Relocation and frequent travel are expected components of the program.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree preferably in a Business discipline, Operations, Management, Supply Chain, or related field.
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to adapt to changing assignments.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to build relationships, collaborate and work efficiently with team members.
Ability to make quick decisions with confidence in an ever-changing environment.
Must be able to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
Must actively lead and uphold Nucor’s “Safety First” culture, including OSHA practices and daily operational safety standards.
Fully hands-on experience and fast-paced learning the scrap metal recycling business from the ground up.
Willingness to relocate to different regions after training based on business needs.
Willingness to put in the work to grow communication, decision-making, relationship-building, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

Complete 12-18 months of hands-on, in-depth, fast-paced training in one Geographic Region.
Learn and model the company’s “Safety First” Culture, including OSHA and Safety programs.
Gain exposure to all facets of the scrap processing and recycling business, including buying and inspecting scrap, transportation and logistics, overseeing day-to-day operations, and maintenance of equipment.
Interact with various levels of corporate personnel, customers, vendors/suppliers, and teammates to resolve problems and ensure steady delivery of products.
Collaborate with other managers to plan and direct the work of the organization.
Identify trends and recommend proactive actions to manage business situations.
Work with and through management to develop and implement actions that protect company assets and profitability.
Expect frequent travel.
Relocate after the program is required.
Expect to work outside in extreme weather conditions in an industrial environment.
