About The Position

IEM is currently seeking an Operations Leadership Intern for our Surrey, BC location. As an Operations Leadership Intern, you’ll be right on the production floor, learning how products are built, how teams work together, and how structured leadership systems keep operations running safely, efficiently, and consistently. This internship is designed for students who are curious, motivated, and excited to explore a future career in operations, manufacturing, or industrial leadership. This role also provides exposure to how Leads, Supervisors, and Operations Managers establish daily operating discipline and standard leadership routines across fabrication teams to drive performance and accountability. This role is 100% in-person at our Surrey, BC locations and does not offer remote work.

Requirements

  • Current student pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • Interest in manufacturing, production, or operations leadership.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive, team-first mindset.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Excel or similar tools (we’ll help you grow from there).
  • Willingness to ask questions, learn quickly, and take initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Jump into daily production activities and see how manufacturing operations run from start to finish.
  • Work alongside Operations Supervisors and Team Leads to support schedules, workflow, and takt time.
  • Support the development and consistency of standard leadership practices across Leads, Supervisors, and Operations Managers, including daily management routines and shift execution.
  • Participate in daily production meetings and learn how teams solve problems in real time using structured escalation and accountability processes.
  • Track and analyze production metrics like output, quality, and downtime—then help turn data into action.
  • Collaborate with teams across Planning, Materials, Quality, and Maintenance to keep operations running smoothly.
  • Get hands-on exposure to Lean manufacturing tools like 5S, standard work, visual management, and continuous improvement.
  • Support safety initiatives and continuous improvement projects on the shop floor.
  • Assist with training documentation, onboarding materials, and standard work updates that support leadership consistency.
  • Take ownership of at least one improvement project that makes a real impact on operational performance or team effectiveness.
