About The Position

This role involves a variety of manual labor tasks in a scrap metal yard environment. Responsibilities include material handling, sorting, equipment operation, facility maintenance, and ensuring a safe and clean work area. The position requires physical stamina and a willingness to learn specific job functions and safety procedures.

Requirements

Must pass a medical physical and drug test
Must pass a background check
Ability to communicate effectively with others
Ability to understand direction (written or oral)
Ability to use basic math skills as the job demands
Willingness to learn how to sort metal, identify colors, shapes, and weights
Willingness to learn how to properly maintain equipment
Willingness to learn how to properly utilize PPE

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable

Responsibilities

Unloading pallets, boxes, and bundles
Material handling and sorting, including pushing, pulling, picking, lifting, carrying, and filling hoppers and boxes
Disassembling small equipment, cutting wires, torquing pipe fittings, removing bolts, automobile parts, and appliance parts
Working with recycling equipment such as metal shears, sawzalls, and wire strippers
Directing traffic of yard vehicles
Performing light facility maintenance
Selecting and using tools properly, pulling and installing parts for machinery, and assisting with machinery repair
Housekeeping duties including sweeping, cleaning, shoveling, and debris collection
Performing moderate and periodic landscaping work
Cleaning up the work area at the end of the shift
Keeping work areas neat and orderly
Organizing materials for effective space utilization
Disposing of various waste materials appropriately
Performing inspections to ensure cleanup is completed
Maintaining effective housekeeping in the workplace for safety and hygienic conditions
