About The Position

Kickstart your career with Old Dominion Freight Line’s Operations Internship! Gain hands-on experience in logistics, master loading techniques, shadow supervisors, and take on leadership responsibilities. Tackle impactful projects and even step in as an Operations Supervisor. If you're eager to learn and grow in transportation, this is your launchpad! To learn OD operations and culture while learning safe and effective ways to load and unload freight and complete several projects throughout the internship, eventually “filling-in” for the operations supervisor during the last few weeks of the program.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, currently attending college
• Willingness to learn operations and complete assigned projects
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Great interpersonal skills with a positive attitude

Responsibilities

• Learn dock operations by shadowing team members and various supervisors and managers at the location
• Learn to effectively and safely operate a forklift
• Assist in securing freight inside trailers, learning appropriate tools and supplies
• Participate in monitoring the daily safety of each employee
• Learn and participate in evaluating and teaching safe lifting techniques
• Learn proper loading and unloading techniques and ensure compliance
• Learn the service center operations and make suggestions for improvements
• Learn DOT and OSHA regulations and ensure compliance
• Learn to effectively use computer/internal freight monitoring systems
• Develop an understanding of various forms such as shipping orders, city stripping manifests, freight bills, overage/damage movement reports and exception forms
• Successfully complete projects as assigned
