About The Position

The Operations & HSES Supervisor is a frontline leadership role accountable for direct supervision of plant operators and overall operational execution at the Bayway Plant. This role owns production performance, workforce leadership, safety, compliance and continuous improvement, ensuring safe, reliable and cost-effective operations. The supervisor leads a team of operators, drives a strong safety culture and is accountable for delivering production targets and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial Safety) or related discipline preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing or operations, with prior supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
  • Experience in unionized environments strongly preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of HSES regulations and compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, drive performance and hold accountability
  • Strong decision-making, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Experience with SAP and production systems preferred
  • Excellent communication, leadership presence and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise and lead operators, providing clear direction, priorities and performance expectations
  • Own execution of the daily production plan, ensuring attainment of volume, quality and efficiency targets
  • Drive accountability for operational performance (OEE), identifying issues and leading corrective actions to eliminate losses
  • Maintain safe work conditions by enforcing compliance with all health, safety and environmental requirements
  • Establish and enforce operating discipline, ensuring standard work, procedures and best practices are consistently followed
  • Monitor production KPIs in real time and take decisive action to correct deviations
  • Ensure strict adherence to Quality Management Systems, maintaining product integrity and customer requirements
  • Assist with cost optimization initiatives, balancing safety, quality and efficiency
  • Demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude, including diagnosing equipment issues and performing onsite repairs
  • Support inventory accuracy and accountability for raw materials, WIP and finished goods across plant and offsite storage
  • Coordinate with planning and supply chain teams to ensure product availability and inventory optimization
  • Assist with indirect purchasing processes, ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services
  • Coordinate between operations, supply chain and customer service to ensure efficient order fulfillment and logistics execution
  • Lead the site HSES program implementation, driving a culture of zero harm
  • Champion safety as a core value, holding employees and contractors accountable for compliance and safe behaviors
  • Lead safety meetings, incident reviews and root cause investigations, ensuring corrective actions are implemented
  • Direct safety training and competency development for all team members
  • Execute continuous improvement plans for safety performance, tracking leading and lagging indicators
  • Support full compliance with all applicable regulations (OSHA, EPA, RCRA, SPCC, Air, HazCom, etc.)
  • Own permit management, inspections and audits, ensuring readiness and compliance at all times
  • Develop, implement and enforce site procedures and policies related to environmental, health, and safety requirements
  • Manage and execute the waste management program, including coordinating waste pickups to maintain regulatory compliance
  • Lead contractor safety management, including qualification, onboarding and performance oversight
  • Ensure all contractors meet site safety expectations and regulatory requirements
  • Support industrial hygiene programs, ensuring safe exposure levels and monitoring programs are maintained
  • Ensure availability, compliance and proper use of PPE and safety equipment
  • Lead site safety systems programs, ensuring effectiveness and continuous improvement
  • Own plant security systems and processes, including access control, badge systems and incident response
  • Coordinate directly with refinery and corporate security teams to ensure site security integrity
  • Directly supervise, coach and develop a team of hourly employees and/or contractors
  • Build a high-performance team culture focused on accountability, engagement and continuous improvement
  • Ensure effective communication across shifts and departments
