About The Position

CSA Ocean Sciences Inc. (CSA) is seeking an Operations Generalist to support a wide range of marine operations, field logistics, equipment management, and project execution activities across CSA’s environmental, oceanographic, and geophysical programs. This position is designed for an early‑career professional interested in developing hands‑on experience in marine operations while working alongside project scientists, technical specialists, and field crews on domestic and international projects. The Operations Generalist will contribute to day‑to‑day operational support functions and gain exposure to vessel operations, field mobilizations, equipment preparation, data acquisition activities, and post‑field documentation. The Operations Generalist supports the planning, preparation, and execution of marine field operations and associated project workflows. Responsibilities include assisting with mobilization and demobilization activities, preparing and maintaining field equipment, supporting domestic and international vessel and dive operations, and contributing to basic data handling, documentation, and reporting tasks. The position works closely with CSA project managers, scientists, and senior operations staff to ensure field activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements. Periodic and sometimes prolonged domestic and international travel and time working on vessels or at remote field sites is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM‑related field (e.g., Oceanography, Environmental Science, Marine Science, Geomatics, Engineering, or related discipline), or equivalent relevant experience
  • Basic familiarity with marine or field‑based work environments through coursework, internships, or entry‑level employment
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally and to work at sea or in remote locations
  • Ability to safely perform physical tasks associated with field operations, including lifting equipment and working on vessels
  • Strong commitment to personal and team safety
  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical equipment operation skills
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC card and other project‑required credentials

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or experience related to marine operations, oceanography, geomatics, or environmental field methods
  • Scuba certification or boating experience (preferred but not required)

Responsibilities

  • Support marine field operations, including mobilization, deployment, recovery, and demobilization of equipment and personnel
  • Assist with preparation, inspection, maintenance, and inventory of marine operations equipment and instrumentation
  • Provide operational support during field activities, including vessel support, deck operations, and logistics coordination
  • Assist project teams with data handling, basic post‑processing tasks, and organization of field records and metadata
  • Maintain accurate documentation of equipment use, field activities, and operational observations
  • Support project managers and technical staff with scheduling, logistics planning, and coordination of operational resources
  • Follow and improve established standard operating procedures (SOPs) for health, safety, security, and environmental compliance
  • Participate in safety briefings, trainings, and operational planning meetings
  • Perform other operational and administrative duties as assigned in support of project delivery
