About The Position

The Novelis Uhrichsville team is seeking an Operations Excellence Engineer for our Recycling and Rolling facility in Uhrichsville Ohio. This position is responsible for driving continuous improvement, assisting with identification of improvement projects, coordinating necessary training, and supporting the plant in workforce engagement. Additionally, this role will collaborate with operations and maintenance to process and safely improve operational performance. Furthermore, this position will foster a collaborative approach to develop, lead and coach Front Line Leaders, operators, and Centers of Excellence (CoE) Leaders to implement the Novelis Operating System (NOS) strategy, plan, and activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required (Process, Industrial, Mechanical)
  • 2+ years’ experience in process, engineering, automation or manufacturing
  • Previous improvement experience and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher training.
  • Ability to engage all levels in the organization and influence others.
  • Good people skills and strong communication skills (written and verbal), building team relationships, and organizational skills.
  • Fluent in English

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in engineering
  • 2+ years’ experience facilitating, coaching, implementing TPM, Lean, WCM
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite). Experience programming data mining tools (Minitab, PowerBI)

Responsibilities

  • Quickly and accurately diagnose system flow issues and problem-solve with cross functional teams.
  • Apply engineering background and statistical approach to help non-analytical roles to define true opportunity for improvement.
  • Collect, organize and analyze data to identify losses and improvement opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Process Leaders and Sponsors to ensure that teams are provided with the correct data and tools to improve operational performance.
  • Audit the effectiveness and progress of implementing NOS.
  • Support growth and maturity of Routine Management across the facility.
  • Pull, analyze and interpret data to support decisions on priorities.
  • Assist with the cascade of targets to the process and aligning Key Process Indicators for the operators.
  • Use knowledge of Novelis technologies, standards and best CI practices to facilitate improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, shorten lead times, reduce costs or energy consumption, improve safety.
  • Partner with leaders to standardize processes using key tools such as process maps, inspection routes and job instructions.
  • Develop & deliver training on key tools and improvement methodologies as needed.
  • Lead or co-lead various Improvement Events – Rapid Improvement Events, Value Stream Analysis, 6s, Standard Work, Flow Cells and DMAIC projects resulting in measurable business improvements.
  • KPI tracking, data analysis, data management.
  • Monitor improvements and report on overall progress to the OpEx Leader/Manager.
  • Work closely with Process and Operational Leaders identifying barriers and encouraging teamwork.
  • Coach Improvement teams to develop a continuous improvement culture, where NOS / CI is interwoven into the way we do business.
  • Engage in change management initiatives and support the plant by effectively communicating change.
