About The Position

The Operations Director is responsible for the wholesome, accurate, efficient, and fiscally responsible daily work and safety of Inbound and Outbound Warehouse, Transportation (Delivery), Fleet Services, and Facilities. This role involves achieving key performance metrics, managing expenses and revenue, ensuring compliance with regulations and policies, and directing staff. The Operations Director also oversees the maintenance of various building systems and equipment, develops emergency response plans, and ensures the appropriate use of department software systems. A strong emphasis is placed on fostering an inclusive culture and driving Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) performance.

Requirements

  • 5 years Operations distribution management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Managerial Accounting, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management or a closely related field required; or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Sound knowledge of the Occupation Health and Safety Act
  • The associate works non-traditional business hours including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and on-call
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing with access to a vehicle is required
  • The associate may occasionally be required to travel (10%) to other sites or the corporate office as business needs dictate

Responsibilities

  • Achieving performance key metrics
  • Expense and revenue management
  • Conducts audits ensuring all required inspections and documentation are completed accurately and retained
  • Strategic execution of local and corporate initiatives
  • Budgeting, forecasting, compliance with government regulations
  • Safety and security of the building, its contents and people
  • Management and direction of staff – maintains associate relations through regular department meetings; maintains on-going interaction; keeps open communication channels with associates by answering questions and explaining policies and procedures; monitors associate morale; and implements or responds to ideas to improve associate engagement and enablement
  • Interprets trains and consistently enforces Company policies and procedures
  • Ensures compliance with all Insurance Pooling requirements; with local, federal and provincial regulatory agencies; with licensing and log book requirements and with food safety policies, protocols and requirements
  • Monitors the condition and maintenance of the warehouse, fleet services, equipment, software, ammonia refrigeration system, HVAC systems, fire protection, and office
  • Ensures contingency systems/practices/protocols are in place to eliminate business disruption
  • Oversees emergency response or crisis management activities
  • Develops and maintains liaisons with local emergency management and other entities
  • Assists Safety Manager with training initiatives
  • Evaluates and ensures the appropriate use and updating of all department software systems
  • Accountable for the accuracy of timecards, approvals and scheduling of direct reports
  • Complies with Sysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures
  • Drive Environmental, Health and Safety performance by providing necessary resources and holding their team accountable

  • Perform other duties as assigned
