About The Position

As British Columbia’s flagship convention centre, we host more than 500 events each year and welcomes hundreds of thousands of global attendees to premier conferences, trade shows, banquets and more. The Vancouver Convention Centre is currently searching for an Operations Coordinator to join the Guest Services Operations Centre (GSOC) team. Reporting to the Manager, Access & Review, the Operations Coordinator plays a key safety & security role in the Guest Services Operations Centre (GSOC), a high-volume operations centre that acts as the communications and operations hub of the building, ensuring requests are dispatched, logged, and executed in a timely and professional manner. This position is responsible for monitoring CCTV system, access control, fire panel, and various alarms including fire, intrusion, and duress and plays a key role in emergency response as the primary point of contact responsible for coordinating resources during incidents. This role covers a 24/7/365 rotation to ensure full coverage for all days. Shifts: Currently, this role will cover shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday (subject to change). This position operates on a compressed work week of four days of 9-hour shifts. The hourly rate is $27.00 to 31.29

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma.
  • 1 – 3 years’ Security operation centre training and experience is preferred.
  • Valid BC Security Worker License with a Security Guard license type is also preferred.
  • Training in system monitoring, emergency response, guest services, reception, and telephone/radio dispatch in fast paced environments an asset.
  • Experience with CCTV and electronic access control systems are considered an asset.
  • Sound working knowledge of a wide variety of standard software applications including Ungerboeck (EBMS), Microsoft Office Programs, iPads, iPhones, and cloud-based software.
  • Good understanding of security operations including CCTV, Access Control and Life Safety Systems.
  • Working knowledge of Criminal Code, Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and building regulations.
  • Strong communication skills and able to clearly express ideas, thoughts and concepts verbally and in writing.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; demonstrated ability to prioritize conflicting requirements in a timely manner.
  • Identifies issues and problems and able to analyze a situation and make appropriate decisions independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate in a team environment and able to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor CCTV systems to identify potential threats to safety and security.
  • Oversee the safety & security of the building and surrounding area, including monitoring any suspicious or forbidden activities and deploying security and/or VPD as required.
  • Oversee access control including cameras, motion detectors, and door alarms ensuring camera footage is documented and stored accordingly.
  • Monitor access control via SiPass (card access system) and providing remote access as required ensuring only authorized persons are permitted to enter.
  • Coordinate resources during emergency response incidents including dispatching appropriate VCC staff and initiating communication with first responders.
  • Ensure routine security patrols are conducted to prevent theft, vandalism, and fire, taking appropriate action on incident discovery.
  • Provide support in facilitating information handling and tracking of daily operations, deliveries, lost & found, loading bays, lift booking, onsite parking, and FSRs.
  • Maintain current knowledge on all daily venue operations to provide operational service excellence to all stakeholders including identifying process improvements and policy updates.
  • Maintain knowledge of events and daily event activities.
  • Monitor and respond to multiple radio channels simultaneously.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of resources in the Ungerboeck Documents Library.
  • Actively contribute and collaborate in projects to improve operational process and strengthen building security.
  • Conduct building patrols when sufficient operational coverage permits for situational awareness.
  • Provide suggestions on better improving surveillance and operational delivery.
