About The Position

Leggett & Platt Inc. is seeking an Operations Buyer for its Supply Chain – Procurement team to support the Work Furniture business. This business designs, manufactures, and distributes components for upholstered furniture, including recliner mechanisms, seating support systems, and sofa sleeper units. With a global presence, Leggett & Platt is North America’s leading independent manufacturer of office furniture components and mechanisms. The Work Furniture business produces task and finished components, as well as private label finished seating, utilizing diverse manufacturing capabilities for contract furniture products. As an Operations Buyer, you will drive purchasing decisions impacting production efficiency and cost savings, ensuring inventory accuracy, optimizing supplier relationships, and aligning procurement with operational goals. The team is collaborative, detail-oriented, and committed to continuous improvement, valuing analytical thinking, cross-functional teamwork, and a proactive mindset.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in procurement or operations buying
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Syteline ERP
  • Familiarity with supplier scoring and performance metrics
  • Exposure to cross-functional collaboration in a manufacturing environment

Responsibilities

  • Initiating purchases of materials and inventory to support production needs
  • Managing inventory levels to meet service targets and optimize turns
  • Building and maintaining supplier relationships; negotiating terms and resolving disputes
  • Analyzing vendor performance and recommending purchasing strategies
  • Identifying cost-saving opportunities and supporting continuous improvement
  • Monitoring raw material pricing trends to inform negotiations
  • Supporting new product development with supplier insights and cost analysis
  • Collaborating with Production, Engineering, Quality, IT, and Customer Service teams
  • Ensuring compliance with purchasing policies and trade regulations
  • Maintaining accurate SKU data in ERP systems (Syteline, Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Using ERP/MRP data to forecast and plan future order quantities
