About The Position

Ergon Refining, Inc. is seeking an Operational Excellence Engineer for its Vicksburg, MS location. This role will provide technical and administrative support for all aspects of Operational Excellence, driving continuous improvement in processes, supporting incident investigations, process safety, occupational health and safety, learning and development, and environmental stewardship. Requirements

  • B.S. degree in engineering.
  • Five years of engineering experience in refining or chemical processing facility preferred.
  • Requires a self-motivated person that is detail-oriented with excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge and experience leading incident investigations using an applicable methodology such as Cause Mapping or Learning Teams.
  • Knowledge of OSHA's PSM standard and EPA's RMP standard.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and other safety related regulations and industry best practices relating to the refining and construction industry.
  • Knowledge of EPA, DOT, and USCG regulations relating to the refining and construction industry.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of engineering experience in refining or chemical processing facility preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for Operational Excellence (OE) projects and initiatives.
  • Develop, review, and report Operational Excellence KPI's in conjunction with OE element owners.
  • Provide engineering support to effectively execute best-in-class Environmental, Health, and Safety programs and practices.
  • Lead major incident investigations and facilitate learning teams to identify causal factors and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate support for other minor investigations and ensure quality is maintained for all investigations.
  • Provide oversight and accountability of the timely completion of action items related to incident investigations.
  • Educate employees on incident investigation methodologies and best practices.
  • Identify, develop, and publish best practices and lessons learned throughout the site, business unit, and organization.
  • Drive the site towards integrating the principles of Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) into its operating philosophy as the site's HOP Champion.
  • Analyze potential fire, release, explosion, and dispersion scenarios to prevent and mitigate these events.
  • Contribute to the design, installation, and maintenance of fire detection and suppression systems.
  • Provide support for the Management of Change (MOC) program and perform PreStartup Safety Reviews (PSSR's) as necessary.
