About The Position

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales. Our roles support our service users and colleagues, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice. We own the Standard Operating Controls tool and the drafting of Key Control Checks. We undertake assurance work for HMCTS via venue visits and through wider Thematic reviews.

Requirements

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of internal and senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally, to convey complex information to different audiences through a range of formats.
  • Highly adaptable, with the ability to work in a culture of change, continually improving (products, processes, and priorities) to meet the current and future needs of the organisation.
  • Proven experience of using Excel to collate, analyse and present data.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the Risk Framework, Key Control Check Sheet (KCCS) and Standard Operating Controls would be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of using key controls would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for conducting high-level assurance assessments (Health Checks), testing governance and assurance systems across HMCTS.
  • Support Assurance Managers and Assurance Business Partners in delivering detailed assurance testing programmes to identify, assess and report risks, while monitoring the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Help build organisational capability by providing advice, guidance and training to support good governance practices.
  • Contribute to national initiatives that develop governance and assurance arrangements, including reviewing processes, identifying risks and recommending mitigating controls.
  • Promote and support a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing development of governance and assurance systems.
  • Work collaboratively across the governance and assurance community to ensure appropriate support is provided in corporate and statutory compliance areas.
  • Assist in researching and planning the team's programme of assurance activities.
  • Conduct and support assurance visits, including virtual testing across HMCTS sites, and produce accurate reports of findings.
  • Monitor the implementation of agreed remedial actions and provide follow-up assurance where required.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports and management information relating to compliance, governance requirements and associated development needs.
  • Actively contribute to team and organisational change initiatives, including project boards and associated workstreams.
  • Support the development of both your own capability and that of colleagues to improve performance and service delivery.
  • Coach and support corporate and operational teams in the effective application of governance and assurance frameworks.
  • Deliver governance and assurance training and evaluate its effectiveness.
  • Work closely with Counter Fraud and Investigations colleagues to support the timely management of incidents and investigations.
  • Collaborate with Risk and Business Intelligence teams to contribute to the development and enhancement of policies, processes and assurance arrangements.
  • Provide advice and guidance to managers responsible for the implementation and oversight of key assurance activities.
  • Support business units through the quarterly Standard Operating Controls (SOC) reporting process, including reviewing, quality assuring and challenging submissions where appropriate.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance on the use of the SOC Tool and associated database.
  • Support the wider Assurance and Governance teams as required, undertaking duties appropriate to the grade and responsibilities of the post.
