The RN Clinician (SS) is an experienced healthcare professional who provides patient care for a specific population. Applying clinical knowledge, research, and experience, the clinician adapts to changing situations and personalizes care based on the AACN Synergy Model for Patient Care. The clinician serves as a resource for colleagues and advocates for patients and families. The role provides safe, effective, independent nursing care; develops and adjusts patient care plans with patient and family input; documents care; identifies learning needs; and individualizes care in consideration of cultural differences. It also includes interdisciplinary collaboration, delegation, developing leadership responsibilities (including Charge Nurse duties when assigned), and assisting with staff and student orientation when a designated preceptor is absent. The RN Clinician supports quality improvement and professional development by identifying policy needs based on evidence, applying the Synergy Model in practice, analyzing data, participating in improvement activities, and maintaining required points and contact hours in the clinical lattice PLAN system. Department- and specialty-specific certification requirements may apply.
