The Operating Room Registered Nurse (PRN) will circulate sports medicine, total joints, plastic, ENT, podiatry, and pain cases in a fast-paced surgery center. Electronic charting will be implemented in May 2025. The role requires demonstrating current, comprehensive professional knowledge and skills in conformance with AORN standards. Responsibilities include assessing the physiological and psychosocial health status of patients, verbally reporting pertinent information for continuity of care, and legibly documenting information in the patient record. The nurse will assess patient/family understanding and expectations, identify desired patient outcomes, establish nursing diagnoses and mutually acceptable goals, and formulate and implement nursing care plans tailored to patient/family needs. The role also involves demonstrating the ability to assess and problem-solve, respond to emergencies, and practice within legal and ethical guidelines (Nurse Practice Act, legal statutes, ANA code for Nurses, PRMC Policy and Procedures). Accountability is demonstrated through flexibility and safe judgment, with continuous adjustment of the care plan based on patient/family data. Specific procedural skills include proper preoperative process communication/report, surgical case counting and documentation, aseptic technique, efficient turnover time, proper patient identification verification, and proper surgical site identification and marking. The nurse will also anticipate surgeon’s needs during surgical procedures.
