About The Position

This position is responsible for supervising all clinical and ancillary personnel involved in Endoscopy, Operating Rooms, and Sterile Processing. The role involves managing day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient patient flow, maintaining quality nursing care standards, and collaborating with various departments and staff members. The manager will also be involved in policy development, budget administration, staff education, and regulatory compliance within the Operating Room complex.

Requirements

Supervises all clinical and ancillary personnel involved in Endoscopy, Operating Rooms and Sterile Processing.
Monitors staff lateness and attendance and documents on staff records. Communicates with all staff so their reporting time is clear each day.
Provides effective supervision and direction of all phases of the clinical nursing function in the Operating Room.
Completes staff evaluations in conjunction with Director.
Balances staffing needs and efficiency while limiting overtime.
Serves as the formal liaison between the members of the surgical staff and the surgeons & Anesthesiologists along with any contracted service providers & sales representatives supporting the daily cases.
Represents the Operating Room nursing function in institutional planning and provides periodic reports on the status of surgical nursing care being provided in the Surgery Center.
Collaborates with the Director of Nursing and other members of the management team to establish and maintain standards and expectations for the Operating Room.
Collaborates with the Admin., DON, BOM, Scheduler and Pre-op/PACU Manager to assure correct staffing and supplies for all cases.
Schedules and attends a weekly meeting with the Administrator and Director of Nursing. Meets informally day to day as needed.
Works closely with all leaders to manage the day-to-day, week-to-week and long term outlook for cases. This includes staffing, equipment, education and regulatory preparedness.
Communicates closely with the Scheduling Coordinator regarding types and number of cases scheduled on each day.
Keeps all leaders up to date on any necessary changes that have or will need to occur (Ex: calling patients to delay arrival).
Affords efficient flow of procedures by monitoring surgeon availability, on time arrival, and informing surgeons of any delays.
Updates all operating room changes so that our Electronic Health record reflects patient flow and is accurate.
Collaborates with the Materials Management department on equipment, implants, and trays needed for upcoming cases. This includes returning equipment.
Coordinates X-Ray needs and communicate with (Scheduler) and Radiation Technicians.
Evaluates staffing relative to patient acuity and makes adjustments as needed.
Competent and able to circulate in all types of cases. Assists with patient care when required. This includes turning over rooms.
Provides safe environment for patients, physicians, and staff.
Collaborates with SPD/OR/Materials for efficiency.
Assists all physicians with mastering the electronic health record, documentation and surgical notes.
Develops policies and procedures to provide quality nursing care and maintains optimal professional conduct and practice in the Operating Room complex.
Ensures the nursing policies, procedures and practices in the Operating Room are consistent within the nursing team to ensure standardized practice.
Participates in the development, allocation, and administration of the Operating Room nursing budget, ensuring adequate resources are available to accomplish the objectives and goals of the Operating Room.
Works with Materials Management to monitor cost containment for supplies and inventory.
Reviews all procedures requiring surgical nursing care throughout the Operating Room complex to ensure that patients with the same health status and condition receive a comparable level of quality of surgical nursing care.
Establishes and implements standards of nursing care and mechanisms for evaluating such care in the surgical nursing areas.
Consults with physicians on patient care and intercedes as patient/staff advocate as needed.
Provides zero tolerance on inappropriate behavior by any member of Riddle Surgical Center.
Builds redundancy without the Operating Room team. This includes assuring that the OR RNs can scrub if needed and cover most types of cases.
Completes monthly staff meetings with Agenda’s and minutes.
Monitors PI data, reviews at staff meetings and documents.
Maintains regulatory compliance for designated area and staff compliance.
Collaborates with the Physicians to collect and analyze data. Makes a plan with the DON for any additional data needed, or plans to change practice based on the data.
Consults with Medical Director with regard to any medical concerns.
Collaborates with the DON and Safety Committee to develop and monitor orientation policies and procedures to provide competent staff.
Coordinates time off and call off procedures that are fair to all staff. Collaborates with the DON for approval on schedules.
Performs quarterly and yearly evaluations and monitors job performance of all staff to confirm compliance with policies and personnel policies.
Schedules with the Director of Nursing and Director of Facilities to schedule and conduct quarterly evacuation and fire drills for all facility personnel.
Assists DON in coordinating employee injury/illness program.
Reviews variance reports with the DON. Looks for trends or concerns and plans to improve practice.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned and/or needed within the Operating Room Complex.
