This role facilitates patient flow, serves as a central point of communication, assists with patient transfers and remains with patients while awaiting their procedures as needed. The Operating Room Assistant performs primary duties including patient transport, general cleaning, equipment cleaning, gathering equipment, proper preparation and assembly of highly specialized equipment, specimen transport, room turnover, and performing shave preps. They will also assist the team with patient-care (positioning and prepping) under the direction of an RN, MD, or Tech. Additionally, they prepare for the next procedure by setting up trays and supplies, and maintain supplies for the modalities. For Operating Room specific duties, the room turnover goal is 25 minutes or less, and maximizing efficiency is expected. For Imaging Services, this role involves ongoing telephone communications between departments, assisting with prioritizing daily patient schedules, coordinating within the procedure room as directed, retrieving lab results, and providing assistance to all hospital-based Imaging departments and campus adjacent imaging centers as needed to support patient care. For Cath Lab specific duties, this role includes transporting non-controlled pharmaceuticals to the lab when ordered, educating lab staff regarding proper sanitizing practices and signing off competencies, orienting and signing off employees to supply distribution centers, collaborating with technologists to manage the availability of sterile instruments, and being responsible for the receipt, distribution, and storage of supplies while utilizing a technology-based LEAN par management system. This role also serves as a department resource and product liaison.
