Operating Room Assistant: Pre Post Unit
About The Position
The Operating Room Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting patient care and operational efficiency within the Pre Post Unit. Primary functions include patient transport, general cleaning, equipment cleaning, gathering and preparing specialized equipment, specimen transport, room turnover, and performing shave preps. The assistant will also support the clinical team with patient care activities such as positioning and prepping under the direction of an RN, MD, or Tech. This role is also responsible for preparing for upcoming procedures by setting up trays and supplies, and maintaining adequate stock levels for various modalities. The Operating Room Assistant facilitates patient flow, acts as a central communication point, assists with patient transfers, and provides patient companionship while awaiting procedures as needed.

- Maintain supplies for the modalities
- Facilitate patient flow
- Serve as a central point of communication
- Assist with patient transfers
- Remain with patients while awaiting their procedures as needed
- Room turnover goal is accomplished in 25 minutes or less
- Maximizing efficiency is expected
- Ongoing telephone communications between departments
- Assisting with prioritizing daily patient schedules
- Coordinating throughout in procedure room as directed
- Retrieving lab results
- Provides assistance to all hospital-based Imaging departments and campus adjacent imaging centers as needed to support patient care
- Transporting non-controlled pharmaceuticals to lab when ordered
- Responsible for educating lab staff regarding proper sanitizing practices and signs off competencies
- Responsible for orienting and sign-off of employees to supply distribution centers
- Collaborates with technologists to manage availability of sterile instruments available for use
- Responsible for receipt, distribution, and storage of supplies while utilizing technology-based LEAN par management system
- Serves as a department resource and product liaison
