The Operating Room Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the smooth operation of the recovery room/PACU and operating room. Primary functions include patient transport, general cleaning, equipment cleaning, gathering and preparing specialized equipment, specimen transport, room turnover, and performing shave preps. The assistant will also support the team with patient care activities such as positioning and prepping under the direction of an RN, MD, or Tech. Additionally, this role involves preparing for upcoming procedures by setting up trays and supplies, and maintaining inventory for various modalities. This position is key to facilitating patient flow, acting as a central communication point, assisting with patient transfers, and providing patient support while awaiting procedures. For the Operating Room specifically, a room turnover goal of 25 minutes or less is expected, emphasizing efficiency. For the Cath Lab, responsibilities include transporting non-controlled pharmaceuticals, educating lab staff on sanitizing practices, orienting and signing off employees to supply distribution centers, collaborating with technologists to ensure sterile instrument availability, managing supply receipt, distribution, and storage using a LEAN system, and serving as a department resource and product liaison.
