About The Position

The Operating Room Assistant is responsible for ensuring excellent patient care, maintaining safety standards, and providing medical assistance in the operating room. This role promotes a philosophy of patient/family focused care through cordial greeting and interactions with patients, families, and hospital personnel. The assistant provides hospital/unit orientation information for guests, patients, and families, and demonstrates an awareness of hospital systems and procedures, including the location of all departments, procedure areas, and other patient services. They refer patients, families, and others to appropriate resources. The role involves independently transporting and assisting in the transfer of patients, properly identifying patients using two approved identifiers, and ensuring safety and support measures during patient transfers (e.g., bedrails raised, patient covered and warm). The assistant must also be aware of special precautions for transferring patients requiring specific protocols.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Must be able to comprehend written directions for mixing cleaning supplies and ordering supplies
Must be aware of proper body mechanics when assisting in patient transfer and lifting of heavy objects
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with other health care members
Ability to work collaboratively with the surgical team
Must constantly be alert and attentive to progress of O.R. schedule to meet tight deadlines

Nice To Haves

Medical Office/Hospital/Managed Care Experience 1 year preferred
Operating Room Experience 1 year preferred
