About The Position

As an Operating Engineer at JLL, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of complex building systems and infrastructure. This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of plant and building equipment, supporting uninterrupted facility operations for a high-performance environment. Your expertise will directly contribute to asset reliability, occupant safety, regulatory compliance, and JLL’s commitment to delivering exceptional client service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of two years of trade schooling in electrical systems, refrigeration, or HVAC.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in facility or plant engineering maintenance, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain complex mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, applicable building codes, and safe work practices.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications such as MS Office, email, and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 50 lbs, working at heights, in confined spaces, and on ladders up to 28 feet.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior supervisory or lead technician experience.
  • Exposure to HVAC systems, fluid handling and pumping, filtration systems, welding, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience operating high-pressure steam boilers and emergency power systems.
  • Familiarity with reliability-centered maintenance practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a critical operations environment.
  • Experience working with third-party vendors and contractors.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle as required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair building systems including boilers, chillers, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and related infrastructure.
  • Inspect and analyze equipment performance, diagnose malfunctions, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and service interruptions.
  • Perform routine and emergency operating procedures for high-pressure steam boilers, lab utilities, emergency generators, propane vaporizers, and related systems.
  • Conduct scheduled tours of boiler plants, chiller plants, cooling towers, emergency generator rooms, switchgear rooms, air handling units, steam stations, and condensate return systems.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies, take independent corrective action, and coordinate with on-call mechanics or emergency resources as required.
  • Oversee and support daily operations and maintenance activities performed by JLL staff and vendors, providing guidance and mentoring to ensure quality workmanship and customer service.
  • Review work orders, logs, and documentation daily to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper filing within the CMMS or required systems.
  • Maintain all engineering and electrical spaces in a clean, safe, and orderly condition while ensuring strict adherence to safety, environmental, and site standards.
