About The Position

As an Operating Engineer, you will be responsible for operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment across multiple building systems, including Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Fire, and Life Safety. You are expected to bring deep technical expertise in at least one craft area — whether Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, or Central Utility Plant Operations — while also being multi-skilled enough to take on a variety of daily and weekly work assignments. This is a hands-on, field-based role where your commitment to safety, precision, and continuous improvement directly impacts the experience of everyone in the facilities you support. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 2–4 years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial building systems
  • Ability to analyze the operation of commercial or industrial Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC systems, identify root causes of malfunctions, and take corrective action
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Physical ability to bend, sit, kneel, squat, stand, reach, and lay for extended periods to access equipment components; ability to work in varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, and outdoor exposure

Nice To Haves

  • EPA 608 Universal / CFC Universal Certification
  • Two or more years of trade school education in electrical systems, refrigeration, or HVAC
  • Accredited trade school degree or union training and certification in an industry-related trade
  • Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as Corrigo
  • Knowledge of proper and safe use of tools including ladders, lifts, volt meters, manual drain augers, and related equipment
  • Experience evaluating vendors and verifying accuracy of deliveries for count, pricing, and description

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs to Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Furniture, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems to keep facilities up to applicable standards
  • Maintain HVAC systems and associated equipment at optimum performance levels through cleaning, inspecting, calibrating, and changing parts as needed
  • Record equipment readings and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation at all times
  • Review client service request summaries to identify and correct recurring operational issues, coordinating closely with vendors and internal teams — reflecting our culture of collaboration
  • Monitor quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors and evaluate vendors regularly for performance and competitiveness
  • Comply with all departmental policies for the safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials, maintaining a clean and safe workplace at all times
  • Perform periodic checks of tool and instrument inventory and maintain responsibility for purchasing, inventory control, and preventative maintenance programs
