About The Position

The Operating Engineer is responsible for responding to guest room calls, taking charge of a watch, and performing duties required during that watch. This role involves servicing and repairing equipment under the jurisdiction of the Operating Engineer, maintaining all buildings and equipment throughout the hotel, and performing general repairs and services in various maintenance disciplines including carpentry, mechanics, plumbing, minor electrical, and finish work. The position requires prioritizing work orders to minimize guest inconvenience, completing assigned preventative maintenance procedures, assisting other departmental craft workers, and performing duties as a member of the Fire Alarm Response Team and the Hotel’s Emergency Evacuation Team. Adherence to hotel safety standards is crucial.

Requirements

  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with hotel guests.
  • Complete knowledge of Hotel operations and Department operating procedures.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Applies critical thinking skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to read, interpret, properly identify, and effectively communicate information, including equipment manufacturer, year built, and the construction code.
  • Ability to learn and navigate new technology.
  • Knowledge of incident and accident prevention involving boilers.
  • Ability to immediately report and document any violations, accidents, or failures involving boilers and pressure vessels.
  • Effectively interact with department managers and be able to work well with all members of the Engineering Department and all other members of the Hotel Staff.
  • Ability to proactively identify and alert appropriate management of boiler concerns before incidents occur, ranging from minor problems to catastrophic failures.
  • Experienced in all phases of mechanical/electrical systems.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Must report to work on time.
  • Must be able to work all shifts on-site.
  • Must be able to work the necessary hours and schedule to meet the operational needs of the business.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be currently eligible to work in the United States of America and able to present required work authorization documents as required to complete the Form I-9 on the first day of employment.
  • Operating Engineer with a First Class C boilers license or above.
  • CFC Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to guest room calls as required.
  • Take charge of a watch and perform the duties required on the job during the watch.
  • Service and repair equipment falling under the jurisdiction of the Operating Engineer.
  • Maintain all buildings and equipment throughout the hotel.
  • Perform general repairs and services in all maintenance related disciplines, including but not limited to; carpentry, mechanics, plumbing, minor electrical, finish work, etc.
  • Prioritize work orders through urgent requests and established hotel area down times in order to minimize inconveniencing guests.
  • Complete any and all assigned preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Assist other departmental craft workers, as assigned.
  • Perform all duties required as Fire Alarm Response Team.
  • Participate in OSHA/Safety programs within the hotel.
  • Assist as needed with the Hotel’s Emergency Evacuation Team.
  • Adhere to hotel safety standards.
  • Perform other duties and handle projects as assigned by Hotel Manager or Senior Maintenance Engineer.
