The Operating Engineer is responsible for the successful operations, maintenance, and repair of Beloit Health System facilities and equipment while maintaining a comfortable environment for patients, residents, visitors, and staff. This role involves working with plumbing and electrical equipment, understanding and demonstrating the operations and maintenance of building heat and hot water boilers and associated equipment, and ensuring equipment operates at peak efficiency according to manufacturer and State and local code requirements. The engineer will also manage the operations and maintenance of BHS buildings chiller, HVAC, and other cooling units, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing pumps, compressors, kitchen, and laundry equipment. The position requires accurately diagnosing equipment failures, adhering to maintenance schedules, and refurbishing motors and other operating equipment. Additionally, the role involves monitoring and documenting facilities water treatment programs, maintaining data for regulatory licensing, and implementing lockout/tagout procedures. The Operating Engineer assesses and takes actions to maintain safe grounds and facilities, participates in committees related to building performance, and supervises General Maintenance personnel. They complete corrective maintenance work requests within a five-day timeframe and maintain communication with hospital administration regarding equipment downtime. A scheduled on-call rotation is required. The role demands a working knowledge of code and documentation procedures for inspection, testing, and maintenance, as well as understanding hospital accreditation processes and regulatory agencies. The engineer will implement and supervise physical environment programs to ensure compliance with accrediting organizations, CMS, OSHA, and state departments of health. They are responsible for maintaining accurate records of all testing, inspection, and maintenance procedures, reviewing documents for accuracy and compliance, and investigating/correcting errors. The position requires assuming additional responsibilities to achieve patient satisfaction, proactively identifying patient needs, keeping users informed of repair statuses, and following up on issues. Greeting patients, residents, and visitors, directing them, and making arrangements for escort and transportation services are also part of the duties. Monitoring restricted areas for appropriate access and using customer service models like AIDET in patient care environments are expected.
