About The Position

Louisiana State University of Alexandria is a publicly supported institution that provides undergraduate level college education to the citizens of Central Louisiana. The university is a unit of the LSU System and operates under the auspices of the Louisiana Board of Regents. LSUA is located in Rapides Parish. This is a Civil Service Position. No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy. Pre-employment Criminal Background check is required. Drug screen and/or physical may be required. This position will require selected applicant to be in a probationary status for at least 12 months. FUNCTION OF WORK: To operate, regulate, monitor, service and maintain ventilation, refrigeration, heating and related machinery and equipment, including pumps and other utility systems. LEVEL OF WORK: Experienced (Operating Engineer 2) or Entry (Operating Engineer 1). SUPERVISION RECEIVED: General from a higher-level Operating Engineer or agency official (Operating Engineer 2). Close from a higher-level Operating Engineer or agency official (Operating Engineer 1). SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.

Requirements

Operating Engineer 2: Two years of experience or training in the operation or maintenance of large stationary engines or mechanical equipment.
Operating Engineer 1: One year of experience or training in the operation or maintenance of large stationary engines or mechanical equipment.
For those positions in which incumbents will be working with and handling refrigerants, possession of an appropriate EPA refrigerant recycling and recovery certification for technicians will be required (as required under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act, 1990).

Responsibilities

Performs preventive maintenance (oil motors, changes belts and filters, paints and cleans) on boilers and related equipment such as ventilating and refrigeration equipment, air conditioning machinery, generators, suction fans, pumps, and compressors.
Monitor the operation of boilers and/or pumps, chillers, cooling towers, equipment and lists any maintenance work performed.
Starts and stops pumps, fires gas or oil fired boilers, adjusts fuel and airflow, regulates water level, reads gauges to check water level, steam pressure, operation of valves and auxiliary pumps.
Performs minor repairs on boilers and related equipment.
Assists skilled workers in performing major repairs.
Administers chemicals to closed systems, cooling towers, and boilers.
Tests water for chemical content.
Assists in over maintenance of pump stations.
Maintains and repairs all A/C and heating units.
Monitor, adjust, verifies, operation of plant and all building HVAC equipment through the use electronic automation systems.
Performs other duties as assigned.
