ASG Operating Company Controller

ASGSan Francisco, CA
10h$170,000 - $195,000

About The Position

We are seeking experienced Controllers to take on critical finance leadership roles across ASG's portfolio of PE-backed SaaS businesses. As an Operating Company Controller, you will own the financial infrastructure of a growing operating company, spanning close operations, compliance, board reporting, and M&A support, while partnering closely with CFOs and executive teams to drive financial excellence and support scale. This is a high-ownership role suited to someone who combines technical accounting depth with the operational instincts to build scalable finance infrastructure in a fast-moving environment. You'll also be part of ASG's broader finance community, sharing best practices and expertise across a portfolio of businesses at different stages and verticals.

Requirements

  • You are a CPA (required), with a strong technical accounting foundation, ideally from Big 4 or a national firm
  • You have deep, authoritative knowledge of US GAAP, including ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 830, and consolidation standards
  • You have a proven track record owning and improving close processes in a PE-backed environment, with experience building board and investor reporting packages
  • You have experience building or co-owning the SaaS metrics layer (ARR, NRR, churn, CAC, LTV, Rule of 40) and partnering with CFO or VP Finance on forecasting and variance analysis
  • You have multi-entity and international accounting experience, with Canada (GST/HST, CRA compliance) required; experience in Europe, APAC, or LATAM is a meaningful differentiator
  • You bring multi-state SALT compliance experience with hands-on use of Anrok, Avalara, or TaxJar
  • You have experience supporting external audits and building internal controls, with exposure to SOX-lite or full SOX environments
  • You have experience supporting M&A: financial due diligence, purchase accounting, and integration of acquired entities
  • You have experience with ERP and close management tools such as Sage Intacct, NetSuite, and FloQast or Numeric
  • You are comfortable operating lean in fast-paced, high-growth environments and do not need a large team to get the job done
  • You are comfortable using modern AI tools to increase your productivity, including summarizing information, drafting and refining content, analyzing data patterns, and supporting decision-making in your day-to-day work
  • You apply strong critical thinking when working with AI-generated output. You know how to check for accuracy, identify bias or gaps, and validate results before relying on them, and you use AI responsibly with an understanding of security, privacy, and ethical data-handling considerations
  • You know how to get high-quality results from AI tools by writing clear, specific prompts and using current AI productivity tools to support analysis, content creation, and problem solving
  • You possess a proactive, solution-oriented, problem-solving mindset -- "I'll figure it out."
  • You thrive in a small, growing, fast-paced, results-oriented environment

Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process end-to-end, driving toward a sub-5 business day cycle without sacrificing accuracy or control
  • Prepare and deliver financial statements, board reporting packages, and investor-grade financial reporting that PE sponsors and lenders rely on
  • Build and maintain the SaaS metrics layer, including ARR, NRR, churn, CAC, LTV, and Rule of 40, in close partnership with the CFO and FP&A
  • Apply and enforce authoritative US GAAP across complex areas including ASC 606 (revenue recognition), ASC 842 (leases), and ASC 830 (foreign currency)
  • Manage multi-entity consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and foreign currency translation across international operations
  • Serve as the primary liaison for external audits, maintaining strong internal controls and SOX-lite or full SOX readiness
  • Lead multi-state sales tax compliance (SALT), including nexus determinations and indirect tax workflows using tools like Anrok, Avalara, or TaxJar
  • Oversee payroll accounting across multiple states and jurisdictions, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
  • Navigate international indirect tax compliance, including Canadian GST/HST, European VAT, and applicable local statutory requirements
  • Lead accounting across multiple geographies, coordinating with local finance teams, third-party bookkeepers, or shared service centers
  • Support M&A activity including financial due diligence, purchase accounting, and post-close integration
  • Drive ERP implementation and optimization (Sage Intacct strongly preferred; NetSuite also valued)
  • You'll get to explore and apply AI tools in your day-to-day work, finding new ways to simplify tasks, accelerate outcomes, and elevate your effectiveness

Benefits

  • The target salary range for this position is ($170,000 - $195,000), and is part of a competitive total rewards package including an annual bonus, employer-paid benefits, L&D stipend and incentive pay for eligible roles.
