About The Position
California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is seeking an Open Rank, Tenure-Track faculty member for the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation and Counseling. The university is a prominent educational and cultural hub in Southern California, serving approximately 19,000 students and recognized as a minority-serving and Hispanic-serving institution with a diverse student population. CSUSB is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, offering support programs for junior faculty and encouraging applications from individuals with experience in diverse settings and a commitment to serving diverse student populations. The successful candidate will teach evening courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online formats for post-baccalaureate credential and graduate programs, focusing on special education foundations and instructional practices for learners with extensive support needs. Responsibilities include supervising fieldwork, advising students, participating in curriculum development and program assessment, and engaging in scholarly activity and service. Teaching may occur at both the San Bernardino and Palm Desert campuses. The position requires a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and working effectively with faculty, staff, and students across disciplines.
Requirements
- Earned doctorate in special education, doctoral students graduating by July 31, 2027 will be considered
- Minimum of three (3) years of public-school teaching experience with students with extensive support needs (severe to profound disabilities)
- Commitment to teaching, research, and service to the university, community, and to the profession
- Strong potential for research and scholarly activity. Higher education teaching and record of research, and scholarly activities required for appointment at higher rank.

Responsibilities
- Teach evening courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online formats in the post-baccalaureate credential and graduate programs including strands in special education foundations and instructional practices for learners with extensive support needs (severe/profound disabilities)
- Supervise and evaluate fieldwork activities
- Advise credential and graduate students
- Participate in curriculum development and ongoing program assessment activities
- Participate in scholarly activity and service
- Teach courses as assigned in the Special Education Program
- Serve on departmental, college, and university committees
- Maintain an active research agenda
- Collaborate with program faculty, fieldwork supervisors, and community partners
- Participate in program events, candidate orientations, and required trainings
- Participate in accreditation work for the program
- Use Canvas LMS and other technologies to support hybrid or online instruction
- Uphold the mission and vision of the department, college, and university
- Model culturally sustaining and equity-centered educational practices
