About The Position

The Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine seeks a clinician, clinician-investigator, or investigator holding MD, PhD, or MD/PhD degrees for an open faculty position. Rank, salary, and tenure status will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Mid to senior-level career investigators with established independent research programs and demonstrated ability to obtain extramural funding are encouraged to apply. The Department of Otolaryngology at UAB is a national leader, providing advanced care across head and neck disorders with surgeons specializing in Head and Neck Oncology, Rhinology, Sleep Medicine, Otology, Laryngology, and Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Faculty members have specialty interests in areas such as aerodigestive disorders, endoscopic skull base surgery, and transoral robotic assisted surgery (TORS). The department is actively involved in research across all aspects of Otolaryngology, including clinical trials and a strong basic science focus in head and neck oncology and rhinology. Requirements

  • MD, PhD, or MD/PhD degrees.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Otolaryngology (for clinician and clinician-investigator candidates).
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Alabama (for clinician and clinician-investigator candidates).
  • Strong clinical knowledge.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High degree of motivation.
  • Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced care across the spectrum of head and neck disorders.
  • Maintain areas of specialty interest in subjects such as aerodigestive disorders, endoscopic skull base surgery, and transoral robotic assisted surgery (TORS).
  • Strive for new discovery in areas of specialty interest.
  • Engage in active research in all aspects of Otolaryngology.
  • Participate in clinical trials for difficult to treat diseases.
  • Contribute to a strong basic science research focus in head and neck oncology and rhinology.
  • Mentor and train the next generation of Otolaryngologists.
  • Provide robust training for residents in all aspects of the specialty.
  • Pursue strong basic, translational, and clinical research opportunities.
