The Department of Pathology at the University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) is seeking qualified applicants for an open-rank clinician-educator track faculty position in the Transfusion Medicine Division. The successful applicant will receive an academic appointment at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine at a rank commensurate with their experience, and opportunities for laboratory directorships will be available. The applicant will report to the current Medical Director of the Blood Bank and share clinical coverage and educational responsibilities with the other members of the Transfusion Division, including didactics and service-related teaching for pathology and laboratory medicine residents and interdepartmental teaching of Medical School students, residents, and fellows. The Transfusion Medicine Division supports the University of New Mexico Health and Sciences Center, which includes a comprehensive cancer center and UNMH. UNMH is a 527-bed tertiary hospital and the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the state. UNMH’s blood bank is accredited by CAP and AABB and transfuses approximately 17,000 blood products annually. The apheresis consultation service performs approximately 800-1000 procedures annually. The successful applicant will work in cooperation with TriCore Reference Laboratories to provide medical oversight for transfusion service operations.
