About The Position
The Department of English at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Communication Sciences and Disorders or Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. The position begins August 2027. CSUSB is a diverse institution serving approximately 19,000 students in Southern California, with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The successful candidate will contribute to the department's Bachelor of Arts, Post-baccalaureate Certificate, Minor, and Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology programs, including the Speech-Language & Hearing Clinic. The role involves developing new programs and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and collaborating effectively across disciplines.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders; Speech-Language Pathology; Speech Language and Hearing Sciences; Language Science; or a closely related field, with degree in hand by time of appointment.

Nice To Haves
- Eligibility for ASHA accreditation and state licensure as a speech-language pathologist.
- Experience in health care settings (e.g., hospitals, residential and nonresidential health care facilities, private practice).
- Specialization in neurology and neurogenetic language and cognition disorders; dysphagia; anatomy and physiology of the speech and hearing mechanisms.
Responsibilities
- Develop new programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
- Teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in communication sciences and disorders, based on sub-specialization and departmental programmatic needs.
- Contribute to the department’s Bachelor of Arts, Post-baccalaureate Certificate, Minor, and Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology programs.
- Engage with the Speech-Language & Hearing Clinic.
- Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population.
- Work effectively with faculty, staff, and students across a wide range of disciplines.
